Nevr, it definitely is a different setting. So far, these are the differences...

1) No magic (huge difference- death is permanent, plague is a horror, mangled limbs are not curable, no instant travel...)
2) Sexism and Racism (never appears in Town, and if it does, the person is generally regarded as dumb)
3) Possibly Feudal style
4) No modern/future influences (like Regiji or Catherine, or people with guns)
5) No obvious religious and spiritual entities. (Religion actually becomes an ideal rather than "I worship that guy who lives down the street." It's something huge and important again).

Realism and verisimilitude separate this from Town. It's deserving of its own forum.

Still don't think it's enough of a hooplah to get a separate sub-forum.

The main reason I want this is to allow a chance for fantasy/medieval RPing without magic. As I've said, and Vael has pointed out also, magic radically alters anything it's introduced to. The difference between a world with magic and a world without really is huge.

Plus, as Vael pointed out, the existing Town is not strictly medieval, it's a blend between fantasy, modern-ish technology, and sci-fi. So there isn't even an existing medieval Town with magic to go to. Razz

And you may not think it's enough hooplah, but a good amount of people have expressed some interest in it, so some people do. Razz

I'd call elves, dwarves, etc. fantasy, too, and would prefer this without them, but whatever.

I'd agree with Xaspian, really. With everything else that's been pulled out, it seems weird to keep the different races.

Just keep Humans and *maybe* One other race.

Although I agree, all human would be pretty cool. Still want drow though...<.< >.>

Hey, they don't need to stay. Just thought they would add a little variation and opportunity for different cultures without humans, they aren't necessary. Smile

If we keep one other, it should be elves, IMO.

I seem to be the only one, but I personally think we should keep all the non-human races. They provide more options, and then you can have all those interesting species-based tensions between humans and non-humans.

And honestly I don't see how short humans and ones with pointy ears are incredibly fantastical. I hate to admit it, but I suppose lizardmen are the most fantasy-like. Still, they've been in other non-magical settings, like sci-fi.

Just thought I'd put in my two cents.

I'd also like to keep the other races, at least gnomes, dwarves and elves.

What's the difference between a human midget and a gnome? Not much.

I think Castaras is trying to tell us that we really need to have gnomes in this setting.

We could just make them midgets.

So... why bother? Why do we need Gnomes, instead of having "midget freaks" who are disowned by their parents and cast out of society (because of all the prejudice, and stuff.)

I still say pygmies are the way to go.

They'd make good enough halflings, and then it would be actual racism when people discriminate against them, instead of some xenophobic crap.

Yes. Yes, you keep thinking that.

And I'll let you be talking to the evil gnomes when they come with their evil fishing rods and evil pointy hats to TAKE OVER ZE WORLD.

I think we should just stick with different races. Making pygmies and deformed humans with pointed ears and whatnot...it just seems unneccessary. People like fantasy races, so we'll probably end up with a lot of deformed or midgit or oddly coloured with wings humans, so why not just let the fantasy races stay, instead of trying to justify it with genetic problems or tribes or whatever?

I suddenly switch my stance on this idea, if only because my latest character idea isn't very feasible for regular Town.

Well, I'm still up for it, anyways.

And like I said, try going through the Town character lists and finding how many don't use magic and have no magic items/protections at all. Razz

I have some minor characters that don't.  But they haven't been around for awhile, though they shall make their return now that Eric has returned.

I almost said Eric, but he does have his opening magic.
