So finally Deadly decided to pull himself together and try to become an artist.... or something. I've always admired people who could draw well or make cool little stick figures. Not going to get there myself by just admiring, I suppose.
So here is where I'll post my little freaks of art as I go along. Hope others get some kind of enjoyment out of my little artistic attempts. And if I can at least give people a good laugh I may have made the world a better place _________________ Character Descriptions | deviantArt
My first attempt at an avatar. Sort of didn't go so well. Still trying to find the best way to work in photoshop with these things. The left, waving arm was added after I made the blunder of shrinking it all down to avatar size. Stupid me, but a lesson learned is a valuable thing.
Didn't make that mistake in my second attempt. I suppose it's not so bad. I really need to find a way to draw softer curves in photoshop. They look sort of... edgy
And for good measure, the shrunken version. I need to find just the right line width, the shrunken versions don't look quite as crisp as I'd like
Since weapons seem to be popular around here, I though I'd try making one of my own. I'm pretty darn proud of this one, actually. My first stab at a weapon, some kind of wicked kukri or other small, curved blade:
Here's Deadly. Tried to follow the style Ceika used for her avatars of Deadly, and I think it ended up looking ok. Not completely satisfied with his tail, and I had to mostly hand draw the ears, so they aren't as crisp as the rest. Still, could be worse
Another one of Deadly, juggling muffins. This one with a more silly look as opposed to the "evil" look of his original avatars (and concept). More in line with how I've been playing him in Town, I suppose. I'm much more happy about the ears in this one. Also improved on the hands (paws?) and added a mouth, both of which I had intended in the previous one but somehow forgot.
Still not satisfied with the tail, it just won't behave like I want it to. The whole thing also looks pretty bad when scaled to avatar size.
Thanks. And I think I tried that, and a few other ways to place the tail. It's just like the tail is... malformed or something. Guess I'll try again some other time, but right now I want to draw something other than raccoons...
Like women, perhaps, to practice those soft curves
First one is pretty much just a copy of one of the thieves in the latest OotS comic. Had hoped to do Haley, but GitP seems to be complaining right now. So I had to make to with the latest comic. Nothing amazing, but it's nice to have some kind of reference when doing something new. It was quick and dirty, and nothing overly amazing.
The second one was done without reference. Just some random girl with a sword. Thought I'd add some kind of background, too. Took a little longer than the first and is a little more detailed.
And... this one didn't quite turn out as well as I wanted, but it's still ok.
Photoshop is being a real jerk tonight, it's really quite late, and I'm just getting mad at it so I'll just post it and be done with it.
Wanted to try and draw a fox, so this is Tentei, my emotionless nogitsune character. I'm not sure he quite looks like a fox. Maybe more like a wolf, but... well. Used Lykan's great wolf/fox heads as inspiration, I'll get a hang of it some day I hope. Atleast I think the tail turned out ok.
The scene is supposed to be from the streets, with Tentei sitting on a rooftop in Town, watching the street below. I think the background ended up looking too much like square concrete, but I'm still just trying to get a hang of perspective in these things. Making things less square is a bit too advanced yet, I think
Long ago I bought a box of special drawing pencils, because I wanted to start drawing, I guess. But I've never really used them much, only drawing a few rough and quick sketches now and then. Always been a million other things keeping me busy and keeping me from practicing this.
Anyway, I really felt like drawing something again, so I did. Ended up drawing some kind of elven faery thing. Could be my Town character Laumé, I suppose, but it wasn't meant to be anyone in particular. It was drawn entirely by hand, without reference, although I did turn up the contrast in Photoshop because my scanner is crappy.
I think it turned out ok. Her hands, feet, legs and arms... they all troubled me, just wouldn't look right. Faces also always cause me trouble. But overall I think she turned out well enough.
Ah, listen to me ramble on... I'll shut up now Have a look, tell me what you think...
She looks great, but a tad bit of advice: I think her upper arms are a tad too long. Actually...they're the perfect length for the torso...but women's torsos are supposed to be a bit shorter. (Mine's extra short....lucky me. But at least I can wear kids' clothing ^.^) _________________
And I can't really show the full picture for this first one here, which is really sad since the censored version below lacks the whole point of the picture - the reason I drew it. I have (with Vael's blessing) provided a link to the full version, just be aware that it contains mild nudity. Personally I feel it is both quite sober and tasteful, but I know some people are very concerned about nudity, so just wanted to warn you in case you do click the link.
I've been wanting to draw something along these lines for quite a while. The censored version below doesn't show, but she's breastfeading her child. I wanted to draw a mother like that, and really wanted to depict the care and love between them.
I didn't originally think much beyond that basic idea. When I began to draw her she somehow turned into a mermaid sitting on a rock in the water. I debated giving her the standard fish-tail of mermaids, but somehow I felt I should break with that convention and draw a mermaid with legs and feet and lots of scales. Sadly, neither her legs nor the painfully drawn scales turned out as well as I had hoped.
I decided to draw her naked, first of all because it seemed to fit the mermaid idea... always struck me as odd if a mermaid were to wear clothes. But also because I liked the symbolism of birth, fertility and 'something new', which the rising sun behind her helps to emphasize too.
It didn't quite turn out as I had planned, but few things ever do. I think I could have done much worse. I really like her hair and expression, which luckily is visible in the censored version
After drawing all those pesky scales, I wasn't really in the mood for drawing anything else even remotely detailed. So I just did a very rough sketch of an idea I was playing around with.
This is a tribute to one of my favourite songs, 'The Death of Love' by my all-time favourite band Cradle of Filth. It's a tale about Joan of Arc and Gilles de Rais. Probably quite a fancyful and historically incorrect tale, but that doesn't make it any less of a tale to me.
So I figured I'd draw something based on that. I wanted to draw Gilles remembering Joan - when she fought the English, and when she was burned at the pyre. I wanted to depict the anger and vengeful hatred of this madman and his obsession with Joan and her crusade.
I started at the bottom, with Gilles. As is obvious, I spent more time on him than on the rest. Got tired along the way and just started doodling some rough concept. My first time trying to draw armor, and horses, both need heavy work. Some day I may take the time to make a real version of this.
While rough, I like the wild and hateful face of Gilles. If I were to remake it, I would leave out the dagger, however. It is too much, his face should be the focus and the dagger ruins that. I like the idea that he's at the bottom, the direction of hell. In contrast both scenes of Joan are at the top of the composition, symbolising her closeness to God.
Despite lacking a lot of details on Joan, I like how she looks quite young. She did die at the age of 19, after all. Also tried to stay true to the maleish look, particularly in the horse-scene.
Her penultimate sighs
Called softy on the kindling wind
Her saintly eyes filling with tears, lifting with truth
And then a golden flash like the onset of Heaven
Leaving her screams breaking my heart
And in the grip of fire
I knew the death of love
This is my attempt at drawing Tenshin, in her 8-tailed fox form. At first I forgot the many tails, almost left her with just one, but then I decided to go and add the other seven tails anyway. Which is tricky. Must be a hell to have that many tails
