So, as part of a big 12th grade Lifebook projects, we need to have 10 relationships that have influenced us. I'm giving the Town an entry, and felt like sharing it. And yes, I stole Meta's title as a kind of slogan, since I feel it sums up the Town pretty well. I'm not mentioning Enupnion by name, because that's begging for trolls.

The Town is an online community Iím part of. I have been able to express so many ideas through the Town, and develop them in ways that I never expected. Thank you all, you help keep me sane.

Wooooo.

Xaspian's the one who originaly came up with the accept no imitations thing out of a purely random note.

Also, I wish they had tournaments where I live. My friend got soul calibur 5 a day early for winning a tournament. Which he's pretty much guaranteed to do since he's like official pro tournament standard... They never do tournaments around where I live.

Just finished final fantasy 13-2, spending half an hour fighting the final boss and being horribly underleveled.

The ending... Sigh. Just... Sigh.

Random thought: Imagine living on one side of the International Date line, and going to school on the other.

"Let's see... my homework is due Wednesday... No. Wait. Tuesday. No.... Tuesday here and Wednesday there? No. Wednesday here and Tuesday there? No....

Ah, hang it all. I'm going to go play video games instead."

That's how my life would go if I went to school on the other side of the international date line.

Argh!

I set aside my afternoon to play ME3, which came out today over here. Went out to town to pick it up, only ONE store advertised it for sale and they got only TWO copies of it in this morning. Which of course they sold out of. Sigh, did what I should have done and ordered it online. Should get it in a couple of days time...

Ouch, I had to preorder a second copy myself after the Game-EA falling out. Still managed to get it though, and got myself a t-shirt to go with it too, thank you HMV.

Quoting myself from the Absences thread. It's too late for me, but maybe the rest of you can save yourselves.

The Herald wrote:
Man, fuck Mass Effect 3. That ending was awful. If any of you are reading this and still playing through the game, there's a point at the very end, after you've gone back to Earth, where Shepard and Anderson are sitting together, utterly exhausted. Just turn off the game at that point and make up your own ending. I can all but guarantee it will be better than the shit Bioware excreted onto your game disc.

(If Shepard is collapsed on a rising elevator platform, you've gone a little too far, but you can still save yourself from the horror.)

Although i haven't finished ME3 yet, i'm right near the end, just finishing off sidequests, Apparently the planned DLC fixes everything ending wise, so yeah, though i haven't seen the ending to comment on that yet.

Edit upon finishing: Wait, why is everyone whining about that? There are far worse endings to games, Take final fantasy 13-2, that's FAR worse of an ending. I'll admit, it wasn't the best ending ever, but seriously? I think there's alot of overreacting. Even if the DLC thing is just a rumour that somebody made up, I'd be quite happy to end it there.

Oh, and if you ever import an ME3 character to start with all your weapons, DO NOT use the scorpion for the first mission, you can't complete the mission with it, it's a really bad QA miss.

I have to agree with Iames here, quite disappointing ending to a bloody brilliant game. I would totally want a do-over on the ending if they ever released one.

Why The Endings Suck - Mass Effect 3 spoilers below; click at your own risk.

Spoiler:

Okay, in the first two games you go around defending galactic civilization in one way or another, making a whole host of choices along the way with effects that ripple through the whole series.

In the third game, all of this comes to a head as you run around the galaxy making peace between feuding factions and creating a genuinely united force to stand against the Reapers, while also buying time and finding resources to use in developing an ancient superweapon. However, the Crucible (as it's called) is missing one final piece - the Catalyst. Late in the game, it is revealed that the Citadel is the Catalyst.

Here's where the problems start.

Firstly, the Illusive Man tells the Reapers that the Citadel is the Catalyst, so the Reapers attack the Citadel and move it to Earth, with the Illusive Man aboard as their inside man.

But their doing this makes no sense. The Reaper's original plan, the one that's worked in every previous cycle, is to come through the Citadel and use it to shut off the Mass Relay Network, thus allowing them to attain crushing local superiority at all times. The whole reason ME3 can even happen is because we kept the Reapers from gaining control of the Citadel in the first game, and have enough firepower there to make attacking it a dicy proposition. If the Reapers can just sweep in and take over the Citadel offscreen, then they should have just shut down the mass relay network and gone back to their original plan, at which point it's all over but the shouting.

Instead, they move the Citadel to Earth and leave the Mass Relays running, because the writers said so.

So, you lead the combined galactic fleet to Earth, because you need to dock the Crucible to the Citadel to make it work. The cutscene where the combined fleets come through the Sol System relay is an epic moment, I won't deny it, and as every species you've rallied to the cause reports their readiness, there's a feeling of "Fuck yeah, I did it, the Reapers won't know what hit them."

So you go down to Earth to get to a space elevator beam that leads to the Citadel so that you can open the arms and let the Crucible dock. There are a lot of really hard fights, it's very atmospheric, and there's some good character moments. Then comes the final push to the beam; you run across an open are devoid of cover while a full-sized Reaper shoots death beams at you. You get hit by one and wake up a moment later, badly beat up, and stagger into the beam.

You regain consciousness on a strange part of the Citadel, and apparently Anderson also made it up, but was deposited in a different place. You stagger around for a bit and have a face-off with the indoctrinated Illusive Man, which ends either when you Paragon him into shooting himself, or use a Renegade interrupt when he moves into your line of fire.

You open the Citadel's arms, the Crucible docks with it, Anderson loses consciousness/dies, and then you stumble toward a control panel to actually activate the Crucible... only to collapse on the floor, then be levitated up in a pillar of light.

You are greeted by an indistinct hologram that inexplicably resembles the small child you watched dying when you first left Earth at the beginning of the game. Why? Because it's Deep and Symbolic, the writers say. Now stop asking questions and be Impressed by our Artistic Vision(TM).

It introduces itself as the Catalyst, the AI that created the Reapers. It spews some bullshit about how synthetics and organics can't live in peace, so it created the Reapers to force-uplift all organic life every 50k years, to keep organics from being wiped out altogether.

It announces that apparently this plan isn't so hot, since Shepard's here an all, and lets you take one of 3 choices in firing off the Crucible: 1) Destroy the Reapers, plus all synthetic life, plus the Mass Relays. 2) Take control of the Reapers, plus destroy the Mass Relays. 3) Use unexplained and never before hinted-at space magic to create a synthesis of organic and synthetic life forms, plus destroy the Mass Relays.

All three endings are identical, save that the explosions are differently colored.

There are huge plot holes here. If synthetics and organics can't live in peace, why has EDI downloaded herself into a fembot chassis and pursuing a romance with Joker? Why am I able to create peace between the quarians and geth? Why can't I throw these accomplishments in the little bastard's face? If the AI in charge of the Reapers was in the Citadel computers this entire time, why did they even need Saren to go aboard in the first game? What was the point of uniting galactic civilization if it's just going to be ruined anyway when the Mass Relays go boom? And given the Arrival DLC for ME2, how do we know that the Mass Relays going boom will leave anyone alive to have a civilization?

But no, Bioware had an Artistic Vision(TM) to end the game with a poorly thought-out Christ metaphor that renders meaningless everything you accomplished over the entire series.

Well, today's model NATO session was eventful. Romania be trollin' hardcore. They seceded three times, and I got to watch two full length wars. : The First Canado-Romanian War and the  Second Canado-Romanian War. We also interviewed the Israeli Prime Minister, Barrack Obama, Vladimir Putin, and the Secretary General of NATO. And I think we set Russia and Greece on fire for the heck of it.

And in the Netherlands corner, I laughed.

All politicians were played by college students, no real corruption of young minds took place.

Nope. The first one ended with the Queen of England entering, reminding Canada who's commander in chief, and calling the delegate a "little jackass", and the second one ended in a ping-pong tournament.

Then they were barred from NATO, I seceded, and we formed the NRCA (Netherlands-Romania-Canada Alliance)

Just something I've been thinking over in regards to a point about the ME3 ending.

Spoiler:

In my opinion it does make sense for the reapers not to shut down the mass relays when they take control of the citadel.

In ME1 the idea would be that they all emerge at the citadel, all in the one location, then shut down the relays and systematically take out all civilization in huge numbers.

But in ME3, they're already there and spread out, shutting down the relays would isolate themselves from each other as much as every other species, and, as is shown multiple times, the reapers aren't invincible, alone or in small numbers they can and sometimes do get taken out.

This is my take on it anyway, so yeah, i think it's reasonable that they don't shut down all the relays. Just my thoughts.
