Trog's Tavern XCVIII

Upon entering the tavern you find it to be rustic, dim, cramped, and smelling of spilled beer. Moving through the crowd, half of which seem to be deadtiming, you spot a fireplace with a banjowood carving on the mantle, you also make out through the haze the curving bar and private booths hidden behind ferns. A side door leading to a bamboo patio outside reveals a hungry looking dumpster mimic sneaking towards an unsuspecting customer.

On the wall is a large, ornate mirror which people seem to step in and out of freely. A winding staircase near the front door leads to rooms for rent upstairs. The backroom is now completely off-limits to all patrons and most of the bar staff, it's occupied by the bartender.

Trog's Tavern is no longer enchanted to be indestructible. Attempting to damage it will succeed. Now with Free Sweet, Delicious Wi-Fi.  We've recently renewed our liquor licence!

New: Anyone that is not a bar staff that tries to pilfer drinks out of where they are kept will get a maximised disintegrate to the head. You have been warned.

The Bushranger

Ahh, that new-thread smell!

Shrike still looks a bit tipsy. The somewhat sultry redhead sitting at the bar, probably still next to Melantha, and idly spinning her now-empty glass in her hands.

Melantha looks across "Do you want another one sweetie?"
The Bushranger

Shrike looks over at Melantha, and smirks a little.
"Well, as long as you don't mind me gettin' tipsier than I am, shur, I'll take another one."

Well, she's always got a neutralize poison if it comes to it.

Melantha waves over another one for Shrike and pays for it when it comes.
The Bushranger

Shrike actually looks a little surprised at that last.
"Why, thanks," she says genuinely, leaning back and taking a satisfying sip from her fresh drink. "You know, this is pretty nice..."

Melantha raises an eyebrow "What? Is the drink nice or is it the company?"
The Bushranger

"Both, but the company especially so," the redhead observes with a grin.

Melantha smiles "That's good to hear."
The Bushranger

"An' it's the truth." Shrike winks, and eyes her glass. "Think I'll make thish one last a little while..."

Melantha chuckles softly "You do that, it sounds like you should really take it slow."
The Bushranger

"Well, it is my third one. Or ish it my fourth?" Shrike chuckles as well, and winks. "Lasht one either way though."

Melantha cocks her head innocently "Why? Have you got something planned later?"
The Bushranger

"Nothing planned shpecifically, no. Just don't want to get too drunk," Shrike responds. "At least, not unless I should be plannin' something."

Melantha chuckles again "Oh I bet you would want to be doing something." she pauses "But not tonight. The intrusion earlier ruined the mood...and I'm feeling a little On edge for some reason."
The Bushranger

"I wouldn't mind," Shrike says with her best innocent look. "But, fair enough. Maybe a Black Shadow of your own would help?"

Melantha shakes her head "That's not a good idea, if I think something's wrong I want a clear head."
The Bushranger

"...fair 'nuff. Main reason I'm cuttin' myself off." Shrike nods, and relaxes. Sips. Shivers. "Hopefully nothin' will happen, though. Or if it does that it'll be fun."

"Hopefully, but given the upheaval since I've come back anything might happen."
The Bushranger

"I suppose." Shrike shrugs. "Could say that 'bout this place anytime, though. One thing for shur, it's never, calm."

"Heh, have you learned that the hard way?"
The Bushranger

"Oh yes." Shrike chuckles.

Assuming Laume is still there Aurora has a question she's been dying to ask.

"What's it like being a ghost?"

Laume is indeed still there. Seeing Aurora she turns and smiles "It's not all that great. I had thought it would be more fun, but it's really not that great. Everything is such a chore to do... except passing through everything, that's easy."

"Wow, I bet that's really cool. You don't have to use doors or anything. Wish I could do that."

"Oh, there are MUCH better ways to do that than by becoming a ghost. Learn enough magic and you'll be able to do so, no problem."

"You think so? I'm not sure if there's a vestige that does that..."

She leans on the bar, pondering.

"You never know. You could always dabble in other magics too."

"You think? I just thought it'd be better to focus on one thing."

"In the beginning it often is. But a true master knows that at some point it's wiser to turn to other areas rather than limiting yourself to one area forever. You may easily find that other magics have something to offer your understanding of Binding."

"I don't think I'll ever be a master, maybe you're right though. Is that what you did? Looked in to a bunch of other stuff?"

Laume nods with a smile "I look into a lot of things, but I'm only a master of a small subset. Sometimes it helps me to look at things differently, sometimes it shows me ways I couldn't have found if I only ever studied one thing."

"Thanks for the advice. Next time I'm off shift I'll definitely look in to it."

Sorry that took so long, my internet is crazy temperamental.

"My pleasure. You're always welcome to ask or come by the shop if you need anything"

"Really? Thanks, I totally owe you one."

She'd shake her hand or hug her or something but you know, she's a ghost and stuff.

"Don't mention it" the ghost chuckles "So how else are things going for you?"

"With me? Fine, it's everyone else I kinda worry about."

It's true, Aurora is probably the most stable PC that works here by a country mile.

"Are anyone in trouble? I mean, more than usually"
The Bushranger

Shrike idly listens to the conversation, letting her drinks wear off. A little.

She thinks for a moment, wondering whether it's really any of her business to be telling people about this stuff.

"I don't know, I mean Quinn says she's happy but Mel says that she's not and I don't trust Alex at all. It's complicated."

"I see. Didn't mean to poke my nose into other people's business" though she does enjoy doing that occasionally

As does Aurora, it's one of the perks of working bar. She's knows what everyone's been up to.

"It doesn't matter, everyone does it sometimes."

"So true. Can't be helped" the fairy grins "So what is it with this Alex and Quinn? Both seemed perfectly fine and friendly to me"

"Well, they're sort of together now and they...he doesn't...he's not good for her."

She's clearly not very comfortable talking about this, muttering and looking about as she talks.

"Don't need to tell me if you don't want. I'm just too curious for my own good, that's what fairies do best" the ghost fairy smiles

Wait...fairies can't be ghosts can they?

"It's my fault, if Quinn says she's happy I shouldn't care."

I... don't know why not. Maybe not in D&D, it's been a while since I played 3.5 and I'm not sure about 4e. Laume's current stats use GURPS, however, and I don't think there's any limitation there.

"But what if she's not telling the truth?" the fairy asks "She could be brainwashed, or dominated, or secretly a doppleganger."

You play GURPS? *hi-five*

"I don't think she is, I've talked to her and it's her, I'm sure of it."

*hi-five* YAY! Actually I have yet to play it, I only recently started looking into it.

I'm sure you're right, but just consider. I don't really know this Mel, but perhaps she has a reason to suspect something.

It's a great system once you get used to it. Real flexible.

And she deadtimes mid sentence because I need sleep.

Indeed, I love the flexibility, it's actually inspiring to look through the list of options. It's been very useful for some of my characters. Some of them just don't work very well in D&D.

"Something to ponder, that's all" the fairy assures with a smile "Anyway, I better see if I can't find Jeeves and have him retrieve my body. See you around, Aurora." And with that the ghost runs off

Alex finally returns to the tavern, hopping the bar and grabbing his ledger.
The Bushranger

Shrike's here, looking bored.

Roland is absent.

Alex walks over to Shrike.
Coffee or Liquor?
The Bushranger

"Better be coffee. I've had four Black Shadows since I last shlept. Or was it five?" Shrike chuckles.

Right.  Standard, or wake you up faster than a bullet to the heart?
The Bushranger

"I'll take the latter."
The redhead grins.

He grins back and starts to make the coffee, adding several shots of espresso.
The Bushranger

Shrike tosses her hair back. Yawns. Watches.

Alex mutters a charm over the coffee and hands over the supercharged mixture.
The Bushranger

She raises an eyebrow slightly.
Accepts the mug, sniffs it, then takes a sip!

It smells slightly of cinnamon.  When she takes some in a bolt of fire magic slides through her body, the alcohol burning out of her system.
The Bushranger

She jumps at the bolt of magic!
And sobers completely up.

He smirks and goes to put away the ingredients.
Be careful.  It's been known to cause firey exhalations.
The Bushranger

Shrike grins at that.
Looks up in the air.

Fwoosh!  She singes the ceiling.  Alex sighs.
There is someone who has to clean that you know.
But it won't be him, as an ooze glomps him.
The Bushranger

"...didn't know it would go that far. I'll clean it up," Shrike offers, looking a tad sheepish.

Laume's ghost enters the tavern, followed by Jeeves who goes to pick up the fairy's corpse and places a few coins on the bar. Laume sits down with her coin, while Jeeves wanders off again with the headless corpse.

And Aurora is there! Doesn't she ever leave? She's cleaning a singe of the ceiling, she's got no idea how it got there.

"Hiya, Aurora" the fairy calls cheerfully and waves

She waves back from her position perched precariously on top of a ladder.

"Hiya. Do you need anything? I'll be down in a sec."

"I wouldn't mind a red minotaur, when you have time" the fairy grins

Scrub scrub scrub, the ladder wobbles. She's dangerously close to falling ogg.

"Right, just give me a couple of minutes."

"Uhm, be careful now, I can't grab you if you fall"

Aurora turns to look at Laume, leaning a little bit too far back and....

She tumbles backwards off the ladder, though she appears to lose momentum rapidly as she does, landing gently on her back as she hits the ground.

"Phew, I was scared there for a minute."

"That was close. Been working on some magic I see?"

She picks herself up off the ground, brushing the dust off herself and shaking her head.

"It's one of the vestiges. This monk called Ronove."

"Ah, of course. Exploring with various vestiges, then?"

She nods again, moving back behind the bar to get Laume her drink.

"Yeah, I've only really tried two so far. The other's make you act weird."

Laume nods, takes the drink and gestures at the coins on the bar "Doesn't sound so nice"

Aurora hands over the drink in a special ghost friendly mug once again.

"Yeah, there's this one called Naberius and he lets you do a ton of useful stuff but he makes you act really big headed if you don't bind right. I just don't want to risk it."
The Bushranger

"Nothing wrong with a little ego, dear," Shrike speaks up from her spot at the bar.

"If you're not comfortable with it, don't do it. That's what I always say"

"I just need to practice then I'll be able to do it safely is all."

She looks down the bar to the woman who's name she still hasn't asked.

"Can I get you anything?"

Laume nods and sips her drink
The Bushranger

"Nah, I'm good."
She's really not.
"Nice and full, oh and sorry about the scorch."
But that was really Alex's fault. *nod*

"That was you? What were you doing?"

She's really quite surprised I mean there's not an awful lot of ways one can scorch a ceiling.
The Bushranger

"Sampling the burn-the-alcohol-out-of-you coffee." Shrike chuckles. "It proved to have a certain...side effect."

Of course, the coffee. It's all so obvious now.

"Right, well could you not do it on the ceiling next time? Please?"
The Bushranger

"I figured better the ceiling than the bar," Shrike points out. "But I don't think I'll be having the coffee again in any event."

"Probably a good idea. Maybe try the tea next time?"
The Bushranger

"Or the normal coffee."

Alas, a deadtime ooze noms her!

Laume, who had left quietly at some point, comes flying back in. It would appear that she's managed to get her body back, because she's no longer all ghostly.

"Hey! You're not dead!"

Aurora is understandably happy for her friend shuffling back on to the mortal coil.

"I know, isn't it wonderful?" the fairy giggles and settles down at the bar

Aurora nods her head enthusiastically in agreement.

"Yeah, how'd you do it?"

"Oh, a little stitching and a bit of healing. It is sort of my specialty, you know. Was only kinda tricky because I was a ghost, but that's what assistants are for."

"So you're a zombie or something? I mean it's just I've never heard a resurrection like that."

She's a little surprised, that one time she was rezzed there was just a flash of light.

"Zombie?! Heavens no! I'm quite alive I assure you. I suppose my trade is not so common or well known around here."
