The Guild Game

You've reached the end of your formal training, and while that is an impressive task, the hardest part is yet to come. In return for your training, you are required to serve the guild for a number of years. Your first task, you know, will come today. It will be the test of your training, to see if you have truly understand what you've learned.

The sun rises on a new day, shedding its golden rays to herald a new beginning, another chapter of your life, and the start of your destiny...
And breakfast. The kitchen bell dings loudly, and a few students begin heading to the dining room.

((The breakfast bell is normally the start of the day in the guild, so unless your character is prone to take very early walks or the like, I'd assume you'd all be in your rooms. Therefore...))

The student quarters. Heh. Well, that was something you'd not have to tolerate anymore. They were tiny, crampt, and not especially well kept. They were, however, serviceable. Each one was maybe as large as two closets stuck together. Indeed, some of them seemed to be exactly that.
Each one had a cot, a small chest, and a nightstand, and a lamp.
Yaaaaaay...

Other places you might be...
Gardens.
The gardens are sadly more practical than they might be, but there is a nice little area set off for a more pleasant view. Lots of herbs, magical components, and a few flowers.

Melee Training grounds.
The training grounds are dusty, packed dirt with white circles marked off in different places for katas and duels. There are a few training dummies.

Archery Range.
Um... yeah. Grassy archery range with a large number of targets. Some suspended to be swinging, some that are meant to be animated by mages, some just normal.

Dining Room.
It is a very large cafeteria-esque dining room.

Meditation rooms.
What? It's one of my buildings! All of my buildings have meditation rooms, whether they get used or not. They're classic!
For the use of mages who need to concentrate with blowing things up.

Mystic Chamber.
There are a large number of these in the Mystic Building. The idea is that you use these rooms for casting spell so you can concentrate AND blow things up.

(so get up and moving. Introduce your characters in posts, run around, do stuff, yay)
Exachix

Tarvaris awakens in his room, and soon dresses himself, before heading to the dining room, and obtaining a simple breakfast. He sits alone at a table and eats slowly.
Sophistemon

Herbert rolls over in bed, clutching his pillow in a sad attempt to squeeze a few more minutes of sleep out of it. His valiant attempt a failure, he slides himself out of absurdly large human-sized bed and falls, like always, to the floor. Wiping gook from his eyes he heads for the showers and cleans himself before dressing in his robe.

His brothers would call it a dress, but his brothers were ignorant bumpkins whose opinions don't matter in the least.

Clean and dressed, red hair tied back in an easily-managed ponytail, he heads to the dining room and begins eating a breakfast that would be considered light even for a halfling.
wxdruid

Shylea is a pretty red haired girl. She gets up and goes down to eat breakfast. She is the friendly engaging sort of girl. Always willing to make friends. She meets several friends downstairs for breakfast and they giggle and talk their way through breakfast.
Vael

((I'll start off the first plot once Timberwolf has gotten a chance to post, but feel free to RP while we wait))
Sophistemon

Herbert finishes his meal and pushes his plate to the middle of the table. He hops off of the stool and heads out of the cafeteria, nodding 'good morning' to a group of chatterbox tall-folk.

The don't notice him, as per the usual. He considers setting their shoes on fire, to make them look down, but he decides against it.

Grumbling to himself, he sets off towards the archery range.
Exachix

Tarvaris just continues to eat, slowly, until he finishes. When he leans back in his chair and contemplates.
wxdruid

Shylea and her friends don't notice him, of course. He probably isn't popular and if he isn't cute? Well, they don't notice anyone who's not cute. They linger over breakfast until a teacher shoos them out of the dining area. They head for the Garden area to wait until they're called.

((oh and Shylea is a half-elf))
Sophistemon

((That and he's three feet tall. You know, I hadn't meant for the group that had ignored him to be Shylea's group.

But it's funnier this way.))
Vael

The archery range is a large, open area with a number of chalked white lines for students to stand on when firing at targets. They are placed at increasing levels of difficulty.
Across the range there are, as said before, a large number of targets. Small classic targets, large classic targets, humanoid shaped targets, animal shaped targets, targets hanging in the air that can be swung, mannequin targets for animating and shooting... you name it.

A lot of flowers seem to be in bloom within the garden- more than normal, at least. A small, loose stone walkway winds among a large number of practical, bushy plants, some vines... pretty much anything you might need.
Exachix

Soon, Tarvaris gets up and wanders to the meditation chambers, where he sits and thinks.
wxdruid

Shylea and her friends are interested in gossiping and giggling, not in actually working. Who's cute today, who was cute yesterday...
Sophistemon

Herbert finds an empty section of the range where he can be by himself to think.

And blast the humanoid targets.

He stands at the white line and focuses on the power that is his heritage. He feels it like he always does, the burning pool at the base of his skull, the fire in his blood, flowing through him, making him more than his brothers, despite their teasing.

Power.

More focus. His mind empties of everything but the heat, the power at his control. He raises his right hand and extends a gloved finger. A single beam, thin. It erupts from his finger like a bullet from a Gnomish gun and streaks towards the target.

((1d20+4))
Vael

The target gets hits on one of the outer areas.
Tarvaris may find an orc in the meditation chambers, who looks like he is constipated.
Or focusing really hard, either one.
Exachix

Tarvaris looks at the orc and hmms, but continues to another which isn't taken.
Vael

A teacher moves over to the orc and puts a hand on his shoulder.
Have you seen anything?
Dere idn't addyting da shee. It judt wall an bahk of eyelids!
The teacher sighs.
Maybe you should reconsider trying to become a seer...
I shee judt fine!
The teacher quickly leads the orc out before he disturbs anyone else.
Sophistemon

Herbert lowers his hand and swears under his breath. He had been aiming for the head, not the shoulder. Nobody would respect him if that was the best that he could do.
Exachix

Tarvaris sits, cross-legged, in a chamber. Contemplating.
Sophistemon

Herbert grinds his teeth and aims his hand, palm-forward and fingers spread, at the target.

Same process. Heat pools in the base of his skull and lights his blood afire. He forces the energy into his hand and...

Releases it at the target dummy.

((1d20+4))
Vael

Herbert hits the dummy head on.
Literally.
Sophistemon

The halfling smiles and pumps his fist.

"Much better."
Exachix

Tarvaris finishes his meditation and gets up, before going out of the chambers and to the gardens.
Sophistemon

Smiling to himself, Herbert turns away from the archery range and heads towards the gardens.
Exachix

Tarvaris sits at a bench, if there is one, and looks at who he can see.
Vael

Tarvaris finds one of the two benches in the garden.
Exachix

Tarvaris sits on it and looks at the plants, smiling. He liked this place alot.
Sophistemon

Herbert wanders into the garden and finds a seat next to the trunk of a tree. Sighing softly, he leans back against the trunk and looks around.
wxdruid

Shylea and her friends are wandering around the garden, giggling and gossiping.
Exachix

Tarvaris doesn't notice them if they pass.
Sophistemon

Herbert does notice them, and rolls his eyes at their passing.
wxdruid

The last girl looks back and rolls her eyes at him, before turning back to her friends.
Sophistemon

Herbert grumbles to himself and crosses his arms over his chest as he closes his eyes for a short nap in the shade.
Timberwolf

Crystella opens her eyes relucantly. Day again and it seems she's missed a load of it. She gets dressed and heads out of her room to greet whats left of the day.
Vael

A man dressed in a tan shirt and black trousers comes into the gardens and heads over to Tarvaris.
Exachix

Tarvaris looks up at him.

"Hello."
Vael

You are Tarvaris, I assume?
The man hands him a note.
The heads have called you to meet with them at noon in the council chamber.
The man heads off to find herbert.
Sophistemon

Herbert is dozing beneath a tree. He is not really asleep, but nor is he truly awake, either. He is in-between, and liable to slip from on to another in an instant.
Vael

The man walks over to him and gives a cough.
Sophistemon

Herbert snaps out of his pseudo-nap and looks up at the man.

"Yes?"
Vael

The man hands Herbert a note, repeats the message he gave to Tarvaris, then heads off to find Shylea.
Sophistemon

Herbert looks at the note and wonders about what is going on.

((How long until noon, game-time-wise?))
Vael

((About two hours now))

The note simply restates what Herbert was told.
Exachix

Tarvelis hmms and stands, before going for a walk.
Timberwolf

Crystella heads outside, drops her book and gives a little squeak of annoyance.
wxdruid

Shylea and her friends have found a shady spot to sit and talk.
Vael

The plain, obviously NPC man moves over to Shylea's area and gives a slight cough.
wxdruid

They all jump up and smile. Shylea, obviously the leader, moves forward. Hello, sorry we didn't see you.
Vael

Which of you is miss Shylea?
wxdruid

She smiles prettily, I am.
Vael

The man gives her a small bow.
The guild heads would like to meet you at noon in the council chambers. Please do not be late.
He hands her a note which essentially says what he just said, then he wanders off to find Crystella.
Timberwolf

Crystella's picked up her book and is setting about finding a place to read it.
wxdruid

Shylea takes the note back to her friends and they start a whispered conversation full of speculation.
Vael

The man frowns and heads to Crystella's room, then leaves his last note there.
Exachix

Tarvaris wanders back around the Gardens, before heading slowly into the main building.
Timberwolf

Crystella realises she's brought the wrong book. She heads back to her room to find it and finds the note instead.
Sophistemon

Herbert speculates as to what the meeting with the heads could be about. Maybe they wanted to offer him an on-campus job? Maybe they, oh, no! Maybe they'd found out that he was the one that'd blasted the vase!

But that didn't seem like a reason to get all of the heads together.

Although, it had been a really expensive vase...
wxdruid

Shylea and her friends slowly head back. She doesn't want to be late after all. That would make a bad impression. Outside the building where the council chambers are she promises her friends that she'll tell them everything when she's done. She goes to wait til noon and she's called in. Her friends head off to have fun.
Vael

Noon is swiftly approaching, and the heads have gathered.
Sophistemon

Herbert heads into the council chambers himself, if only so that he can be alone for awhile. To his surprise, he sees Shylea there.

It can't be the vase, then, as he'd had no accomplices.

He nods to her in somber greeting, fully expecting to be ignored.
Exachix

Tarvaris waits out until he is called in, and nodds to Herbert and Shylea if he sees them
wxdruid

Shylea frowns at Herbert, What's the runt doing here? UGH
Sophistemon

Noting Shylea's frown and Tavaris' nod, Herbert finds himself a seat and takes it, waiting for whatever happens.
Exachix

Tarvrais just waits, thinking and considering.
Vael

The heads are sitting in their seats, waiting for something.
Exachix

Tarvaris doesn't know if to enter or not, but as the other two have, he does, and takes a seat also.
Timberwolf

Crystella runs down, a few tears on her face as she knows she's late. She legs it inside and hurriedly takes the chair obviously meant for her with a very apologetic look on her face.
Vael

Priyae, the passive master, gives a small sigh and a comforting smile to Crystella, while the combat master, Agral, just gives her a stern glare. Consider that he is an orc, it probably looks like a death wish.
Aldwin sits silently, and Elam hops up to speak, standing on his chair. The gnome, quite honestly, isn't much taller for the action.
Lets see... Herbert, Tarvaris, Shylea, and... Crystella.
He smiles dazzlingly at them all.
Now that you have finished your training, we've prepared a job for you...
He takes a sheaf of papers from Aldwin and flips through them.
Aldwin has prepared a finely detailed report, of course...
He says this in such a tone that shows appreciation for the sheer level of dullness that Aldwin can craft.
Timberwolf

Crystella perks up a little.
wxdruid

Shylea smiles, Finally.
Sophistemon

Herbert smiles for the first time today and eagerly anticipates further details.
Vael

Elam clears his throat and looks through the papers, glances at Aldwin, then back at the papers.
You don't expect anyone to read all that, do you?
Get on with it, Elam.
Aldwin doesn't sound amused. He never is, as anyone who has been taught by him (IE, everyone in the guild) would know.
Elam sighs and puts the papers behind his back.
A certain sponsor of ours is having goblins troubles. He is one of the types who gives randomly... he's not really reliable, mostly because he feels he should be getting something from us for his donations. Therefore, he is asking us to help him.
You goal is to get rid of the goblins, and, if you can, convince him to be a bit more... generous. Make a display of your services. Offer them later in the future. Sell us.
Sophistemon

Herbert nods. Kill the goblins, impress the sponsor. No problem.
Timberwolf

Crystella nods but a quick guilty though of "I wonder how much I could get for Master Aldwin" pops into her head. She quickly surpresses it.
wxdruid

Shylea nods, she knows what she'll do...
Exachix

Tarvaris just nodds and listens.

"What sort of a problem? How many are there?"
Sophistemon

Herbert raises his hand.

"Sirs?"
Vael

Elam looks over at Tarvaris.
Raids, assassination attempts, uprisings... the exact number of them is undetermined due to their guerrilla tactics, but that alone should say something.
He looks to Herbert.
What is it?
Sophistemon

"In what way can we expect to be compensated for our work?"
Vael

I'm afraid we have no pay for your mission this time, though you might get a bonus if you persuade or sponsor to donate more... also, anything you might collect from the goblins is yours, as always.

((Remember, I said in the beginning that you might not always get paid by the guild. You're doing the quests in return for keep and education.
I'll make sure to keep you at average wealth level though, never fear))
Sophistemon

((I know, I know. I'm just playing Herbert as slightly... dickish.))

The Halfling nods and lowers his hand.
wxdruid

Shylea starts thinking about traveling with the runt and finds the thought rather repulsive. He better not want anything from me. She starts to mentally tally up what she'll need to take with her.
Exachix

Tarvaris nodds.

"Ok then."
Vael

So lets see...
Aldwin takes over, taking his papers back.
This is where his manor is.
He puts a map down on the table and points it out.
And this is where we are. Should be only about two or three days depending on how quickly you leave and travel.
Timberwolf

Crystella gives a little gulp. Although she's one of the blasty blasty school of wizardry, she's never really been away for any length of time.
Exachix

Tarvaris looks at the others.

"When will you all be ready?"
wxdruid

Shylea looks over at him, It'll take me at least a couple of hours to get ready. I have to tell all my friends and then they'll help me pack.
Sophistemon

Herbert smirks. Unlike all of those fancy-pants, stick-their-noses-up-at-you wizards, he has no need of spell components and heavy books.

"I can leave in 20 minutes, give or take ten minutes or so."
Exachix

Tarvaris nodds and looks at Crystella.
Vael

Aldwin waits through their preparations, then speaks up again.
Now then, I suggest you take this route.
He begins to trace it with his finger.
Travel down the East Coast road until you get to the Golden Moon Inn. Your stay for the night will be paid for- we have substantial relations with the owner. Try to be nice and keep up best appearances for our sake while you're there. We don't want to upset someone who does quite as much as he does for us.
Speaking of which, while you're there you may pick up an extra supplies, and he may have some quest contacts to pass along to us.

He keeps tracing the path.
After that, keep going down the road and then take the west fork, here, travel across Achimes's Chasm, and if you need to, stay the night at the encampment there. Our associates will allow you to cross the bridge there, and then with a bit more traveling you'll arrive at... our sponsor's manor.
He looks like he is going to say a name, but decides against it.
Sophistemon

Herbert nods his understanding of the directions.
Timberwolf

I'll be ready in about half an hour

Crystella visably pulls herself together
Exachix

Tarvrais nodd to Crystella and looks at the map and nods to the directions.
Vael

The guild heads stand.
We will be awaiting your return.
Aldwin pushes the papers he has forwards for someone to take.
wxdruid

Shylea quickly moves forwards and takes the papers.
Exachix

Taravris nodds and stands.

"I shall get ready."

He looks at the others.

"Meet at the entrance in 2 hours time?"
wxdruid

Okay, hm, what to pack....

She looks back up to the guild heads and curtsies before leaving the room.
Sophistemon

"Of course. I will see you all there."

He hops down from his seat and leaves to get ready.
Vael

The guild heads disperse.
Exachix

Tarvaris bows and goes off to prepare himself.
wxdruid

Shylea quickly joins up with her friends, they whisper, giggle and commiserate with her (after all she has to travel with a runt). She finally gets packed up and goes to the meeting point where she says goodbye to them and waits for the others.
