The Fairy's Grove - Occult Store and Surgery

Somewhere in the slums is an old home, once cover for one of the countless small and ultimately unsuccessful cults dotting the slums. Now, however, it has been taken over by Laume who has set about turning it into some kind of store.

The small space of the main room is packed full of bookcases and shelves full of all things obscure and magical. A tree grows in the middle of the room, with things hanging from its branches. Dried herbs of all kinds, strange figurines, masks and fetishes, bottles and glasses with preserved organs, plants or more obscure things, vials of colorful liquids, books and scrolls beyond count, bubbling and seething and oozing things... it's a wonderland of dark, mysterious and obscure trinkets.

Outside the entrance a sign has been nailed up next to the door.

The Fairy's Grove - Occult Store and Surgery

Welcome to the Fairy's Grove. Feel free to browse our wares or just come in for a chat about all things obscure.

Magical Remedies and Paraphernalia
We buy and sell all sorts of magical or occult trinkets and artifacts. We have a wide selection of herbs, poisons and other natural components. Books and scrolls of rare lore, some for sale, others for perusing at a charge. Mystical and occult trinkets and artifacts of obscure origins abound, personally collected by your humble proprietress.

Come in and look around, you may be surprised at what you find. Ask for Laumè if you have items for sale. We will offer a fair price for any items of interest, or perhaps a barter.

Spoiler:

If you want some item, however obscure or rare, you can freely assume it is here, though maybe it is not stored out among the common items. Alternatively Laumè may be able to provide some information on where such an item could be obtained, maybe leading to an actual adventure. This is not like the Omnishop which literally sold everything, of course. It's an option. The item you seek may be here, or it may not. Your choice.

Healing and Surgery: Body Modifications, Enhancements and Transformations
Minor healing, basic care and surgery is provided free of charge for those in need.

We provide surgery and body modifications, enhancements and transformations of any kind, from purely cosmetic procedures and basic healing to radical alterations such as grafts and transplants. Laumè is a professional surgeon with decades of extensive experience on all manners of creatures both intelligent and otherwise, living and (un)dead.

We do not service robots or similar constructs, with the exception of corporeal undead and constructs composed of flesh and/or plant matter.

We also offer most forms of body art, such as tattoos, scarifications, or piercings.

Special Services
Laumè may be able to provide special services pertaining to the magical and occult lore and arts including necromantic lore and practice; surgery and body alteration or construction including the crafting of living or undead constructs, guardians or pets; herbal lore and alchemy including poisons and magical components; ask for specifics if you seek such services.

Disclaimers and Warnings!
Laumè reserves the right, at any time, to refuse your request or to disclose to anyone or everyone the nature and details of any services or products provided to you if she deems them suspect or particularly dangerous.

Any and all fire within the store will be quenched upon entry, including such things as cigarettes. Anyone trying to circumvent or break this effect will be banished from the store.
Who

Having been ushered out of Trog's, Aurora has taken to running a few errands she normally wouldn't get the time to do. As such she wanders in and looks around with a slight sense of foreboding, careful not to touch anything.

"Um, hello?"
Deadly

Laume, who may as well be here as in Trog's, comes out from one of the back room. Seeing Aurora she smiles "Hi! I was wondering if anyone would find this place at all. It's a little secluded."
Who

"I come passed here all the time, how'd you do up the place so fast?"
Deadly

"There seem to be no shortage of vacant buildings around here now, so it really wasn't hard to find one. As you can see, I'm still far from done setting everything up, however. That'll take some time."
Who

"Oh right, um should I come back later then? When you've sorted everything out?"
Deadly

Laume shakes her head vigorously "No, it's quite alright. Did you come looking for something, perhaps? I'll be happy to help."
Who

"If you're sure, do you sell chalk?"

She feels a bit daft for asking but it said occult store and she needs some more for binding seals. Still if there isn't any here she can always go to a craft shop or something.
Deadly

"Just regular chalk, or a special kind of chalk? I should have plenty of regular chalk she smiles
Who

"Just any kind of chalk should do thanks. I don't think any of the seals needs anything special."

She's not sure though, she's not terribly good at this whole binding thing.
Deadly

Laume begins searching some of the crates "Hmm. If you do come across a seal that needs special chalk, let me know. I'm not sure what exactly I have in that department right now, but I might be able to help." After a little bit she pulls out a handful sticks of chalk and offers them to Aurora
Who

"Really? Thanks! How much do I owe you?"

She gratefully takes the chalk, she knew this wouldn't be a wasted trip!
Deadly

Laume grins "Don't mention it, always happy to help. And let's see... one copper a piece sound acceptable?"
Who

"Sure."

After a few seconds of rummaging and me checking Aurora's TekTek to make sure she had pockets, she produces a silver piece.

"Here you go."
Deadly

Laume accepts the coin and with a little snap of her fingers it is gone Excellent. My first sale she chuckles "Was there anything else you wanted?"
Who

"No that was it for now thanks."
Deadly

"Ok. Feel free to drop by any time. Maybe I'll see you at Trog's a little later."
Who

"Yeah, wonder if it's calmed down yet..."
Deadly

"Hard to tell. Battle for ownership, was it?"
Who

Aurora nods, that is indeed what it is.

"It was Mel's first but Alex has got papers and stuff...not that Mel'll care."
Deadly

"So, who should one root for do you think?"
Who

"I don't know, I mean Alex is a jerk but I think Mel's might really hurt him."

It's quite the conundrum isn't it?
Deadly

"He seemed pretty nice to me, if a little spineless maybe" she grins.

It is.
Who

"I'm just glad I don't have to get involved."
Deadly

"Probably best. I suppose we can hope it works out peacefully like it seems Alex is aiming for."
Who

"I hope it does, I should probably get back anyway."
Deadly

"I think I'll come along. Jeeves can deal with the unpacking here for a while." She picks up a potted plant on one of the boxes nearby and goes to open the door
Who

Aurora nods and heads for the door, rather nervous about what they're going to find at Trogs.
Deadly

Laume follow behind
Deadly

Laume returns to her shop with her hands full of scrolls and books. Letting Jeeves handle the shop she heads out in the back and drops her bounty on a table where she begins sorting through each item, trying to determine their exact content.

After a while of working through the scrolls, she gets up and leaves the shop once again.
Obscurejones

Mosh knocks on the door and looks around to see if the store is open.  He glances worriedly at the horizon, mindful of dawn.
Deadly

Laume looks up from a giant book... well, giant for a tiny fairy. Seeing Mosh she brightens up in a big smile "Welcome, welcome! What can I do for you?"
Obscurejones

Mosh ducks inside ahead of sunlight and breathes a sigh of relief, the breathing mostly from habit.
I was wondering if you sold blood?  I've been trying to find a supplier outside the tavern.
Deadly

The fairy smiles, seeming to find that a perfectly reasonable request "Any specific preferences? I do use a fair amount of blood myself, so I can probably provide what you need."
Obscurejones

Human, preferably not from musicians.
He looks around at some of the charms and trinkets.
Got anything to help with sunburn?
Deadly

The fairy disappears out back "How much would you need?" She can be heard rummaging about as she continues "Problems with the sun? I'd look for a good cloak, maybe with a spell of darkness on it. I suppose with such a spell it wouldn't even need to be a cloak, if you prefer to dress light. It does make socializing difficult of course, but it is a simple and effective way to keep out the sun."

Plenty of charms and such on display. Charms against snakes and charms or snake charming, charms of good luck, charms of attraction, cursed charms, charms of protection against all manner of things, even a charm labeled "Charm of Prince Charming".

Trinkets are even more plentiful and diverse.
Obscurejones

He looks over the charm of Prince Charming.
Huh.  Oh right, the blood....  To be honest only a few pints a week but I'd need a steady supply.
Deadly

The charm is quite garish, but otherwise unremarkable.

"No problemo. I can do that. You want some now, or is it just for later?"
Obscurejones

I'll take this week's pints if you can.
Deadly

"Sure thing" the fairy says as she returns, carrying a few small bags of blood. "There you go. The bags keeps it warm and fresh. Anything else you needed?"
Obscurejones

If I placed an order for enchanted clothing do you think you could fill it?
Deadly

"Sure, no problem."
Obscurejones

Right, could I get a balaclava, a pair of gloves, and a jacket with that darkness enchantment you mentioned?
Deadly

The fairy writes the order down and nods "I'll get right on it"
Obscurejones

And do you take cash, or only gold and silver?
Deadly

"Isn't gold and silver cash?"
Obscurejones

He pulls out a few slips of what appear to be a sort of green paper and looks  hopeful.
Deadly

The fairy grins "Oh, that kind of cash. Sure"

((I have no idea what blood and darkness-enchanted clothes would cost, though, so let's just assume she says a price Smile))
Obscurejones

He hands over the amount she says in neatly folded nonsequential twenties.  Obviously acquired through legitimate means.  Grabs a blood bag and pulls an iron straw from his pocket, whipping up a quick blood juice bag.  Sips.
... Also, I don't suppose you know anyone with a room for rent?  Preferably a windowless one.
Deadly

Laume pockets the cash, unperturbed by the blood drinking "Aside from the tavern, nothing specific comes to mind. I don't know if they have window-less rooms, though. You could always look around the slums, there are often an abandoned home or two, that's how I found this place."
Obscurejones

Well, thanks for your help.  Looks like I need to go renovate a hovel.
Deadly

"No problem, and good luck" the fairy waves cheerfully
Obscurejones

He nods and ducks out with the setting sun.
Deadly

Laume flies back into her shop
Libris

((Ah! Sorry, I was expecting a post in the Streets or something!))

Greeny looks around and his tail starts to wag.

"Not that I'm a big expert in interior decor, but I must say, I like the tree, very homely."
Deadly

((Oh... right, I didn't think of that, I hope you didn't have any plans in the streets))

Laume grins "Thanks! I'm always looking for ways to make my abode more interesting"

Next to the door is a potted plant on a pedestal. It's just a tiny sprout, but it's definitely an unusual sort... and it kinda looks like there is a tiny eye attached to one end of the stalk
Libris

Greeny glares at the eyeball plant, hoping it'll look the other way.

"What kinda services do you sell here?"
Deadly

The eyeball plant doesn't seem capable of looking in any other directions than it is currently doing.

"Oh you know, a little of this a little of that. If it's magical or occult I can likely help, with certain caveats. I also provide healing and surgery, as well as custom creations, say if you wanted a pet or a guardian or something. But mostly I just conduct my own studies and experiments."
Libris

Greeny frowns.

"Why not create your own guardian?  I appreciate that improving on perfection such as myself is impossible, but you don't seem like the type to turn down a challenge."
Deadly

Laume gestures at the eyeball plant next to the door "I'm working on it, but it's taking some time. I also had a cat guardian once, but it slept all the frickin' time."
Libris

Greeny snorts.

"Pah! Cats! Don't get me started on cats!"  He nods at the plant.  "So what's that going to be when it grows up?"
Deadly

"A guardian plant. It's not entirely certain how exactly it'll grow up, so I'm excited to see what becomes of it this time. But it'll get very, very big. I made it long ago from a mix of many different plants and animals, back in my old lab before it was destroyed. I only managed to save a single seed of it."
Libris

Greeny feels a pang of sympathy for the plant, then shrugs back to his normal self.

"So long as it doesn't develop a taste for lupine flesh, then," he says, before settling down by the tree. "Right, this is me, being a guard. When you're out or asleep, I'll keep watch. I'll take my payment in meals, and so help me if you bring me salad." He looks at Laume seriously. "You don't want a wolf with wind."
Deadly

Laume feels quite sad for her lost guardian plant too. It was a good friend.

"Oh dear no" she grins "I'm sure I can find something more befitting a wolf"
Libris

The wolf's tail wags.

"Any other instructions for me, or shall I commence guarding?"
Deadly

Laume scratches her chin and looks around "I suppose you should meet Jeeves. He doesn't talk much... or at all, but we can't have you thinking he's a thief or something. He's probably in the lab right now."
Libris

Greeny looks ever so slightly alarmed.

"The lab?  Do I have to go in there?  What if someone spills some science on me?"
Deadly

"Don't worry, I'm sure no one's going to spill anything. But I suppose I could get him out here instead."
Libris

"I'd appreciate that," the wolf replies.  Not that he's scared of being lured into a lab and being 'improved', no, not at all!
Deadly

Laume would never do that...  Rolling Eyes

The fairy flutters off into a back room, where she's gone for a while.
Libris

Greeny watches the front door religiously.

Okay, sometimes he watches the eye plant.

But mainly the door.
Deadly

That's alright, they are right next to each other Smile

Laume returns, with a small, frog-like humanoid dragging itself behind her, bent back and long arms.

The fairy grins "This is Jeeves, he doesn't speak and you probably won't see him much, but he's always here somewhere just in case you need him."

Jeeves watches the wolf blankly, blinking his eyes slowly first one then the other.
Libris

"If you can't speak," Greeny says, addressing Jeeves directly.  "How would you call me for help if you needed to?"
Deadly

Jeeves looks at Greeny blankly, then pulls out a small horn and gives it a good blow.

Laume winces and covers her ears at the sound. "Well, that's new... and exciting, I guess. He usually takes care of himself, though."
Libris

"I like a frogman with a plan," Greeny says approvingly, but files some information away for future use...

"So, anything else?"

((Jeeves is the 2nd highest suspect on his list right now))
Deadly

((Heh. Who's the prime suspect?))

Laume ponders, while Jeeves returns to whatever he was doing before. "Nope, can't think of anything else. Anyway I have a bit of work to do in the lab, just call if you need me."
Libris

"Will do."

((The "Bloody Demon Lord".))
Deadly

((I half expected you'd say Laume herself Very Happy))

Laume nods and cheerfully flutters off to her lab to play mad scientiest... or something

((And now I need to figure out what to do next...))
Libris

Greeny is quite content to watch the door and challenge any customers who might come in.
Deadly

((Sorry for the slowness of late. I'm really not sure what to do, and one post a day or less isn't very helpful for running any serious plot Sad))

Not much happens. A few heads are poked inside now and then, random passers by, but mostly the story is nice and quiet.

After some time, Jeeves comes back out, carrying a large box. Without a word he lumbers off towards the door.
Libris

Greeny watches Jeeves, then has a sudden bout of suspicion and, as quietly as he can, slinks off in pursuit.
Deadly

Off to the slums they go, then

((Sorry for the wait Sad Hope you had a great new year and everything))
Libris

Greeny trots back inside the shop and sniffs around for any sign that anything odd has happened while he was out.
Deadly

((Sorry, feeling a little blank Sad))

Nothing seems to have happened in his absence.

Jeeves follows in and disappears out back again.
Libris

((That's all right Smile))

Greeny settles down near the tree to keep watch again.
Deadly

And then.... things remain quiet

Until... Laumé flutters back into the store "Heya!" she says in a chipper tone. "So how's it going? Nothing too jaw dropping happened, I wager?"
Libris

Greeny's tail wags.

"All fine, I reckon," he says cheerfully.
Deadly

"No big surprise. I hope it doesn't get too boring for you." The fairy looks thoughtful for a while "Maybe I could make you a pet or something to keep you company."
Libris

Greeny barks out a laugh.

"While that's very thoughtful, the idea of keeping other creatures as pets is a very human one.  But thanks all the same."
Deadly

Laume shrugs "No inherent difference between a pet and a friend, it's all about how you see it and treat it. If you treat it like a pet its a pet, if you treat it like a friend its a friend."
Libris

"I know it's called 'making friends' but..."  Something occurs to the wolf.  "You know what?  Why not?  Nothing that'll sting me or is bigger than me."
LadyOfWar

Assuming the door is open for business, the front door of the shop is opened by a young woman. She is wearing a white hoodie, jeans, hiking boots and has a gauze bandage wrapped snugly around her head. Blood is drying on the bandage from where she suffered a head wound. It has clearly gone many hours without proper treatment.

"Hello?" she inquires cautiously as she pokes her head into the shop.
Who

Also assuming the door is opened for business the young woman is followed by a brown haired man of roughly the same age, he's wearing a checked green suit that's obviously been patched and repaired several times.
Deadly

Laume claps her hands excitedly "Don't you worry, I'll make you something awesome"

***

And the door is indeed open. Laume turns and greets the two "Howdy folks, what can I do for you?"
Libris

As subtly as he can, Greeny sniffs the customers. If they have scents, he'll remember them for the next time he sees them.
LadyOfWar

"Well..." The girl begins, slightly apprehensive as she looks around at the shop's interesting offerings, "The sign says 'surgery' and I might need a few stitches." she points to her head, with a slightly lop-sided grin.
Deadly

The fairy squints and studies the bloodied bandage. "Oh yeah, I can fix that up, don't you worry" she smiles and leads way out back "Just follow me"
LadyOfWar

"But you've just seen the bandage, not the injury...." the girl points out. She seems a little wary, and some of the odder trinkets are raising her suspicions. Strangely enough though, as she begins to follow the fairy she pauses to look at a spleen in a large jar and rather than being shocked by it, she seems fascinated. "Spleen, yes?" she identifies the organ easily “Splenomagaly, probably why you saved it, yes?”.

Another jar catches her attention, “This section of femur has a tumor in the trabecular bone in the epiphysis… would be interesting to see if it’s a primary bone tumor… those are rare….” She muses aloud.

For Greeny's edification: the girl smells like a girl, and like dried human blood from her head wound, and like some sort of odd, semi-dried tarry black substance that is spattered all over her sweatshirt. The black substance might make the wolf's canine senses go on the alert a bit. It came from a rather evil source and is proof that the girl began her day by killing something large.
Deadly

The fairy smiles "I've seen the bandage, and given such facts as your continued walking I think it safe to conclude that it hides nothing I can't fix. But of course I'll have to remove the bandage to know the details." She lights up as the girl takes note of her collection, "Oh, you have an interest in the medical arts? The specimens I keep out here in the store are only a minor selection, the things I figure might be of particular interest to visitors. I keep most of my things in my private labs." They leave the main room of the store and walk down a small corridor before entering the first door. The room on the other side is quite a change in scenery. Where the store is... rustic and full of strange objects, this room is a fairly advanced operating room without a lot of distractions for the eye. Very clean and clinical. "I do apologize for the lack of interesting things to look at in here, but most patients seem to prefer a lack of preserved body parts."
Libris

Greeny wonders what on earth the girl had been fighting, and hopes it came off in a worse state than the girl herself.

With luck, maybe it was a demon.
