The City Of the Herreldr II

Access to this layer is very limited.

This plane is a city. A huge city. The city of the Herreldr, a city built for war.
Hawkeye

Quote:
"None of your business," the wolf replies swiftly.

Merant smiles at the little wolf "But everything on this plane is my business, especially little green pups that don't belong."
The_Librarian

"Good job there aren't any of those around, eh?" Greeny says cheerfully.  "I bet I'm going to be late for work now," he adds pointedly.
Hawkeye

"Oh Greeny, Greeny, Greeny, why are you so hurried to get away? You haven't told me what you wanted your blessing to be about."
The_Librarian

"Didn't I?  But you've already refused it," the wolf says.  "And this place is foul to me - something tells me if I weren't already dead before I came here, I would be by now, and it's... not comfortable-" and wolf begins muttering to himself again.
Hawkeye

"I didn't refuse, nor did I accept. You went off into a rant before you could tell me."
The_Librarian

"I lose track..." the wolf whines - this place really is getting to him.  Part of him wants to start biting people.  "All I want from you is to go home and see the girls.  Maybe blessing was the wrong word, maybe I meant boon, do you do boons?"
Hawkeye

He smiles "The girls are working for me right now. If you want you can wait here for them."
The_Librarian

"Can I wait outside of the Temple?" Greeny asks hopefully.  His tail even wags.
Hawkeye

"Come now, everyone in this city would be marvelled with just being inside this temple, why would you oppose that, dear pup?"
The_Librarian

The wolf whines and paces a little, then mutters to himself again.  He seems to reach a conclusion, and looks back at Merant.

"Because the people in this city are demons like you," he replies.  "Whereas I'm the Greeny Wolf."
Hawkeye

"Are you suggesting that your too good for what other people in the city wants? That you'd prefer to be without it?"
The_Librarian

"I suspect you know damn well what this place is doing to my head!" Greeny barks.  "And it's worse in this temple, near you."
Hawkeye

Merant answers innocently "Well I don't know, Greeny, why don't you explain to the class what this glorious place could be causing problems in your head?"
The_Librarian

"Chattering... I can hear chattering all the time and it's so loud..."
Hawkeye

Merant chuckles "Oh come on now, it can't be that bad. It's not like you're in any-" he face suddenly clouds over at that point and he narrows his eyes "Danger."
The_Librarian

Greeny mutters to himself and then laughs, before regaining his composure again.

"What sort of trouble?  The girls - they're all right?"
Hawkeye

"From what I can feel they're in precisely the wrong place at this point, they will be in a great amount of danger if they don't get out there fast. Luckily for them my strongest piece is already there, but I don't know if that will do them any good in the end. I can't interfere directly."
The_Librarian

"Oh poor helpless you if they die I'll rip your throat out."  Then the wolf looks puzzled.  "That's it, I'm waiting outside the Temple."  He turns to trot out of the door.
Hawkeye

To that Merant stands up "How dare you turn your back on me! They were fully aware of the risks, or didn't think to take them into account. They're big girls, they don't like being babysat over, even though they need it sometimes."
The_Librarian

The wolf stops and looks back at Merant.

"You're right there.  If they so much as suspected they were being babysat, they'd fight back.  But me?  I'm waiting outside."  And this time he runs for the door.
Hawkeye

Greeny might find running quite difficult as Merant paralyses the wolfs body in place "I've incinerated beings for less, wolf."
The_Librarian

The sudden stopping does nothing to ease the discomfort in the wolf's head.  He says nothing.
Hawkeye

((Bleh, I've just realised that because of something I've posted before that he's contradicting himself))

"Before you go, wolf, if you could go anywhere, where would you go?"
The_Librarian

"What, anywhere-anywhere?  Outside this plane?" Greeny asks, foolishly letting some hope creep into his voice before it gets drowned out by muttering again.  He chuckles, then looks at Merant again.  "Where the girls needed me to be, I guess.  After that, Trog's.  By the fireplace.  But before then-" He interrupts himself with muttering.  "Before I could relax, I'd want to know they were all right.  You're not the only person who cares about 'em, you know."
Hawkeye

"Where you're needed at the moment, although not from their view, isn't where they are now. You'll just get in the way. But after it ends...we'll have to see."
The_Librarian

The wolf's tail begins to wag, then stops and he mutters to himself again.
Hawkeye

Merant releases the wolf, and then his mind begins to get troubled as he feels what is happening in the city that he sent the girls to.
The_Librarian

The wolf bolts for the door and, if allowed, will then sit just outside, peering in, and only very occasionally muttering.
Hawkeye

The portal from which Jamin and co will appear from is on the hill next to the villa.

Greeny won't be close but he should see people coming out of it.
The_Librarian

"We made it - we just need to get her to the temple over there and we'll be fine."

----------

Greeny, meanwhile, lets out a joyous bark and starts sprinting towards the figures.
The Bushranger

Quinn nods, taking a depe breath and moving along with Jamin, not hearing the wolfy bark in her concentration on helping to carry Aurora.

And a tear running down her cheek. She figures she's not going to see Jonah again...
The_Librarian

There's a sort of desperate cheerfulness in Jamin's voice as she tries to reassure Quinn.

"You're really worried about her, aren't you?" Jamin asks.  "She'll be fine, I mean Kalidas is very powerful, and so's Jonah, so they'll be okay."  And it's a that point she hears the wolf.  "No way!  Quinn, look!"

Run, run, run goes the wolf.
The Bushranger

Quinn nods a bit, Jamin's reassurance cheering her a little bit - and then she looks up in surprise as she's told to look.
And spots the wolf, rapidly approaching!
"...eep!"
The_Librarian

"No, it's all right, Quinn!  That's Greeny!"

"What, you don't remember me, Quinn?  I used to sit under the armchair in Trog's," Greeny says cheerfully, but then whines in concern as he looks at Aurora.  "Merant said he'd sent you on a quest.  Things didn't go well, did they?  He looked worried - and you both look too tired to be carrying your friend, so I'll take her from here."  As he changes shape to his elfin form, the better to carry Aurora, he mutters slightly under his breath.

"What was that?" Jamin asks.  "No, I've got, like a zillion questions, Jonah's fighting an angel, don't you dare go crazy!"  And then, putting Aurora down gently, she gives the elf a big hug.
The Bushranger

Quinn blinks, then grins - a little weakly. "Oh, it is you! I didn't recognise you and expected something else to go wrong..."
The grin fades, and she hands off carrying Aurora to the were-elf, and steps back, rubbing her hands over her face and taking a deep breath.
The_Librarian

Jamin lets go of the elf so he can gently pick up Aurora, then looks at the girls sympathetically.

"And I thought I was pessimistic.  Was it really that bad?" he asks Quinn as Jamin leads the way to the main temple.
Hawkeye

Suddenly from the temple there comes a loud voice, you could think it was in astoundment and even partial shock "What in hecks name is she doing there?!"
The Bushranger

"Yeah...it was...it was that bad."
Quinn's voice is small as they head up to the temple.
"We might need another..."

...and Quinn gets cut off by the shout from inside the temple!
The_Librarian

Greeny raises an eyebrow at the shout, while Jamin breaks into a desperate sprint to get to the Temple.

"That didn't sound good," Greeny says, then mutters a little under his breath.  "Another what?" he asks, wirggling his shoulders uncomfortably - he's not a fan of his elfin form.
The Bushranger

"...another resurrection. Jonah's still back there and fighting a...an angel."

And alas, poor Greeny! Left behind carrying Aurora as Quinn launches into a top-speed run to catch up with/join Jamin.
The_Librarian

Greeny watches the two girls go, then looks down at Aurora in his arms and sighs.

"Shocking behaviour, eh?  Just 'cos neither of us have got a pulse..." and he begins muttering to himself as he makes his way at a slower pace towards the temple.

------------------

Jamin, meanwhile, bursts into the Temple.

"Merant! Jonah's fighting an angel!"
Hawkeye

In the temple things look a bit...burnt. He turns to look at Jamin "I know. If I could I would rip the wings off of Marisela Capalla, but I'm not allowed to interfere."
The_Librarian

"But you can tell what's going on, right?  I'd know if the other me was dead, but beyond that... Aurora got killed, the mission all went wrong.  We let you down."  Jamin looks torn between feeling quite dejected and very anxious over her other self's well-being.
Hawkeye

"Jonah's alive, and in the best condition of the four people that are involved at the minute." he doesn't care overly much about the mission at the moment, the battle between the two divine agents was taking all of his attention.
The_Librarian

Jamin glances around quickly, then makes a small celebratory gesture.
Hawkeye

Merant looks quite disapproving "No celebrations yet. They are still in there and they are one man down."
The Bushranger

Quinn bursts in following Jamin, frantic, as she overhears the conversation. Trying to calm herself as she moves behind her friend, keeping quiet, but her eyes betraying her worry.
The_Librarian

Jamin turns and smiles at Quinn.

"She's still alive which, considering what she's up against, is something of a miracle.  It's an actual miracle, in fact."  She looks very relieved, but then frowns a little.  "I hope she learns from this."

Greeny finally reaches the Temple entrance again with Aurora in his arms.  He takes a few steps into the Temple, gently but quickly puts Aurora down on the ground before changing back to his wolfish shape and running out of the Temple again.  He peers his head round the door frame - that's as close as he can bear to be, and it's not unnoticed by Jamin.

"There's something odd about him.  He didn't feel right when I hugged him, and he's not acting right, either."
Hawkeye

Merant shrugs "I can't tell what has happened to him."
The Bushranger

"I hope so too," Quinn agrees with Jamin. "Maybe we could all learn something..."

She crosses over and kneels next to Aurora, taking her friend's hand in hers, and very obviously trying not to cry.
The_Librarian

((Very Happy))

Jamin turns back to Merant.

"Is there anything you can do for Aurora?" she asks in a concerned tone of voice.

----------------

Greeny, meanwhile, is just by the door and still in earshot of Quinn.  He's muttering to himself.

"....*mutter*.... *mutter*.... nobody asks what..."
Hawkeye

"There are lots of things I can do to her, it just depends on which one you would like."
The_Librarian

"Did you just make a joke?" Jamin asks, folding her arms and smirking.  "That's new... but I like it.  I meant resurrect her."
The Bushranger

Quinn, meanwhile, tunes out Merant and Jamin, and looks over to the door.

~Um...hello? she asks mentally, attempting to form a Mindlink with Greeny. ~Ask what?~
The_Librarian

That's not such a great idea.  Greeny's head is a churning mess and the thoughts she receives have so many echoes they're hard to understand, not helped by the fact there appears to be two voices speaking at once.

Who's there?
Who's there?

What do mean, Ask what?
Out of my head or I'll BITE.
Hawkeye

"Of course." he clicks his fingers. Aurora should now be alive.
Who

There is totally a catch isn't there? Aurora shoots in to a sitting position and screams loudly.
The_Librarian

Jamin mouths 'THANK YOU!' at Merant and then runs towards Quinn and Aurora.

"Is she all right?  I think I'd scream too..." though she doesn't sound wholly sure of that.  She wishes she could ask Jonah if her other self had screamed.
Who

Aurora's screaming trails off as she sees Jamin and Quinn, also she's out of breath.

"What happened?"
Hawkeye

((no catch to the resurrection, surprisingly))
The Bushranger

Quinn eeps, pulling away, and starts to speak up to answer aloud...

...then her head whips around at Aurora's scream!

And in an instant, she's hugging her friend as tightly as can be imagined, and sobbing into her shoulder.

Awww...
Hawkeye

Merant thinks ahead just a little bit ahead and frowns slightly. He looks at a priest that was smart enough to stay enough away to avoid being incinerated earlier and has a mental conversation with him.

The priest nods and approaches the group. He clears his throat "The Lord of Fire proclaims that if you want to speak to Him He suggests that your weaker friend waits outside. From His seat of power His words directly inside this temple may have...unpleasant effects on her."

((You'd know why if you've seen the film 'Dogma'))
Who

Aurora hugs back just as tight, dying was a little...unsettling.
The_Librarian

((Gross - but also one of my favourite movies))

"I'd do as he says," Greeny says from the doorway, with no indication of having threatened to bite Quinn.  "I'll keep Aurora company though, no problem."  Except he mutters very briefly before wagging his tail.

"You died," Jamin says, deciding that being direct is probably the best approach here.  "Jonah probably has a better idea of what happened, but she's not made it back yet."
Who

Aurora'd get up if it wasn't for Quinn hugging her, she settles for looking concerned.

"Is she okay?"
The_Librarian

"I'd have felt it if she'd died," Jamin says.  "She was up against something very powerful though.  Still, if she's alive, there's hope.  She owes you an apology."
Who

"I didn't slow you down did I?"
The_Librarian

"Not much," Jamin says.  "Quinn made you light, and we got you out of there no problem.  But you shouldn't have died.  Jonah screwed up."

Greeny mutters something and then trots away from the doorway, further away from the oppressive evil.
Who

"I'm sure she didn't..."
The_Librarian

"I'm not.  Next time, I'll lead the way."
Hawkeye

Through the portal on the hill the high priest of Crimmor and two stretcher bearers carrying Kalidas come out.
The_Librarian

...with Jonah not far behind.

Greeny clears his throat.
"Think I can see a stretcher coming through.  Yup, looks like a stretcher."
The Bushranger

Quinn finally stops hugging Aurora, letting go, and pulling back with moist eyes.
"I'm glad you're back," she says, standing and offereing a hand up. "I...I can wait outside too," she says, looking at Jamin.
Hawkeye

The priests head into the villa and place Kalidas down on a bed in the building. One other person comes through the portal and turns towards the city proper to get some more help.
Who

Aurora gets up, looking at the people on stretchers with a worried face.
The_Librarian

Jamin isn't quite in view of the door, so can't see who's approaching.

"Is it Jonah?  Is she okay?"

"She's walking," Greeny calls from the doorway before muttering.  "So presumably she's okay.  Can't say the same for the chap on the stretcher."
Hawkeye

Several more people run up the hil from the city and enter the villa.

The priest turns and looks at Jonah "You can't do very much, if at all, by just being here."
The Bushranger

Quinn steps back, standing next to Aurora, and wringing her hands a little, looking torn between staying with Aurora, and running off to hug Jonah.
Who

Aurora makes that decision for her and runs to hug Jonah

"You're okay!"
The_Librarian

Jonah nods at the priest.

"You guys take Kal to a healer.  I'll, uh, wait here.  Take in the view."  Except the view doesn't seem quite so spectacular anymore.  She grins when Aurora hugs her.

"So are you!" she says.

Jamin follows the others at a more sedate pace, and Greeny follows Jamin.
Who

Aurora just grins and hugs, happy her friends are safe.
Hawkeye

An avatar of Merant appears besides him. The original Merant stays in his seat, the avatar walks out of the temple at a godly speed towards the villa, passing by the group without looking at them. He enters the villa and follows where they took Kalidas.
The Bushranger

And Quinn will try to hug Jonah as well!
Heck, might even hug both her and Aurora at once.
"I'm glad you're alright!"
The_Librarian

Jonah shoots a glare at the avatar as she multi-hugged by her friends and her hand goes to the two rings in her trouser pocket.  Then she takes a step back and looks at Aurora.

"I'm so sorry.  I couldn't see what was happening and he attacked so quickly... I got him, though - he was our thief."  She turns to Quinn.  "Look, I'm not going to mention that it was you who stopped me doing anything I'd have regretted - if this was some kind of test that I just failed, I don't want Merant blaming you for it."

"That's okay," Jamin says, reaching the group.  "I've already started blaming you," she says to Jonah.  "You could've got us all killed."  Jonah looks back towards the portal anxiously, but then Greeny gives her a nudge.

"GREENY! You're here!"
Who

Aurora attempts to nod reassuringly.

"It's okay, it wasn't your fault."
Hawkeye

The people that came through from Crimmor (the two stretcher bearers and the priest) come out of the villa, walk towards the portal and, unless stopped, go through it. The priest glances at Jonah then looks away.
The_Librarian

"I was leading the group and I wasn't prepared.  But thanks - it means a lot to me you're okay."

((Sorry, I'm going to stop one))

"Hey priest!  Priest!" Jonah calls.  "Is Kal gonna be okay?"

"I can't believe you went- OW!"  Jamin is interrupted by Greeny biting her hand and looking at her innocently.

"Give her a break.  You'd have done the same thing in her shoes."
Hawkeye

((I thought you would))

The priest looks back and bites his lip "Hard to say, although I heard from one of the people attending him that it's a 50/50 chance." he swallows "We've got very good people at keeping people alive through non-magical means, he's in the best place."

After a pause he speaks up again "The Lord of Fire is pissed, there's going to be a lot of fallout from this."
The_Librarian

"He's not the only one," Jonah replies darkly.  "Thanks for stopping."
Hawkeye

The priest nods then hurries through the portal.
The Bushranger

Quinn nods to Jonah. "Um, thanks. And, thanks for...letting me stop you," she whispers, before stepping back and, taking a deep breath, looking between her friends uncertainly, clearly unsure what to say next.

"Um...is there anything I can do to help with...well, anything?"
The_Librarian

Jonah shakes her head.

"No.  I think I'd best give the rings I found to Merant, and then get some ice-cream.  Although, could you- no, I know, could you get a message to my mum?  She's probably waiting for us in Trog's."

"We're totally grounded when we get back,"  Jamin says.

"I'd bet Kratos on it,"  Greeny chips in.
Hawkeye

A dretch (bottom left in this picture) appears in the doorway of the villa. It speaks to the group "You are to follow. This is not a request."
The_Librarian

Greeny immediately moves to follow the dretch, but the girls hesitate.

"What the heck are you?" Jamin asks slowly.

"And where are we going?  Because if we're heading into battle, I'm not recovered from the last one yet."  But, she adds silently to herself, she totally reckons she could take on Ugly-Butt here.  Then she grins.
Hawkeye

"Your group has got a free pass up to this date, do not risk losing it. Now follow."

It turns and enters the building again.
The Bushranger

"Um, sure, I'll find her. Although...shouldn't you just tell her yourself?" Quinn asks, then eeps as the dretch appears, looking quite willing to follow (and starting after Greeny, in fact).
Who

I'm fairly sure Aurora should follow Quinn, just to be on the safe side.
The_Librarian

Jamin reaches to hold Jonah's hand, but the latter has her arms folded tightly and looks like she'd rather go anywhere than in that villa.  All the same, she follows the dretch and Greeny inside the villa, and Jamin follows a second later, having turned to Aurora and Quinn and given them a 'I-have-no-idea-what-this-is-about' shrug.
Hawkeye

The dretch walks in a relatively straight line through the building, then turns right and enters a circular chamber. It waits for the group to catch up.
