Scribblings of a Flying Sheep (will edit tek-tek avatars)

Here's some bits of art I've done.

I'll custom edit tek-tek avatars on request.
wingrae

A creature inspired by a misspelling in chat.

Some Tek-Tek avatars I've edited

Before:

Wanted white bangs framing her face.
After:

Before:

Wanted the hemline at the knee.
After:

Before:

Wanted the wings to stretch from above head to brush the floor at her feet. Wanted wings behind her instead of over her hands.
After:

A butterfly:

Because I felt like drawing something bright and posting it here. The scanner never quite gets the colors right when scanning oil pastels... the colors are really vibrant in real life.
The Bushranger

Wow, that's awesome!
wingrae

Thanks BR, glad you like it Very Happy
Artemis

Ooh! Pretty! I love the way the colors swirl on the lower wings. Plus, I love butterflies. ^_^
wingrae

Thanks Art Very Happy

If you like swirly things... here's something else with swirled colors I did recently:

The colors came out a lot better on this scan.

It is actually done with just four different colors of pastel. I could have done it with three... but I cheated Razz

The spoiler has a larger version of it.

Spoiler:

I find layering on the pastels and blending the colors together relaxing. Not bothering to draw anything in particular takes all the pressure off.
*looks at above statement* I'm just droning on aimlessly because I can, aren't I.... *vanishes*
Deadly

Ooooh, swirly swirly colors! Yay!

Looks real great, both the butterfly and this one. Looks so... jungle-y and warm. You can see all sorts of things in something abstract like that... I see  lots of grass and plants. Maybe a peacock or something in there too. And... some kind of extremely colorful pelican being ridden by a gnome or faerie Very Happy
Artemis

I thought I saw a horse at first, or at least its tail. Very nice, Wingrae.
wingrae

Ooohh... cool. I didn't know all that stuff was hiding in my picture Very Happy *goes to look for more fun things in the swirly colors*

As requested by Jacklu, here's the picture full size:
Spoiler:

Uberblah

That's really awesome, Wing! Nice job.
wingrae

Thanks Uber Very Happy

And here's what happens to the piece of art if someone is foolish enough to hand me a craft knife and a giant stack of cardstock paper...

Wukei

Awesome.  I'm gonna have my kids doing something similar (not tye dye, but stained glass on paper [safer than real stained glass]) on Sunday.
wingrae

Oooh, sounds fun. I did something like that once where we rubbed a little cooking oil into the paper. Yeah, the paper got a little slimy, but it gave it that nice translucent look.

Also dropped bits of water-color or bits of food coloring onto coffee filters to make a tie-dye look, that was kinda nifty.

Both projects can be a little messy with kids, but are fun.

What supplies are you using for your project?
Wukei

Markers, glitter pens, paper, and a flashlight to put the finished 'stained glass' cross over.
wingrae

Ooh, glitter pens Very Happy
Wukei

Yeah, I found a place that sells things cheap and bought a box of 72 for like $15.  I can already see the kids leaving the lids off of their pens, though.
wingrae

A way to minimize that:

Before handing out the pens, tell the kids the caps have to go back on right away after using the pen. (sure, they'll forget, but some will remember, and then they'll know it's expected)

Then when it is time to pick up, put one kid in charge of collecting the pens and checking them all for caps. All the kids bring their pens to that one kid who collects them, checks them for caps, and puts them in the pen-box. I find the kid in charge tends to take their responsibility quite seriously, and often is more vigilant than a grown-up would be. This way the picking up is done for you instead of having to waste your time picking them all up and checking for caps.

I'm sure you already use techniques like this, but thought I'd say it anyway Smile
Wukei

Pfft...that doesn't work.  But they each get 1 pen of each colour.  If theirs dries up, it's their own fault.  No more for them.  Too bad.
Uberblah

Wing, that looks so cool. You're really good with a craft knife.
wingrae

Thanks Uber Very Happy

So the kids each have their own set then. My idea only works if all the pens are kept together in one bin and are shared by the group, which is how we store the glitter pens and all the markers at my church.
Wukei

Well, I have to do things a bit differently to keep peace.  The fact that I have almost constant migraines means I do several things different to keep them quiet.

Meet Sheepie
The Bushranger

Awww, thats too adoreable!
*huggles the sheepie*
Uberblah

Heheh. It's your namesake! Very nice.
wingrae

Very Happy Glad you think so, BR Very Happy

Yup, she's named after me.
wingrae

Who

It's so wooly! Awesome.
Wukei

Awww...I love the one on the top. *huggles the sad one on the bottom*
Uberblah

Sheepies! *huggles all the sheepies*

*thinks that's a sufficient enough response* Razz
wingrae

Aww, thanks you guys Very Happy

Look, all the huggles made sheepie really happy:

Wukei

Aww...still cute ^.^
Deadly

Aaawwwww Smile That's just too adorable
Uberblah

Awww... I like the cap. Cute.
wingrae

Sheepie gets a break today so I can post a couple of random bits of art I did a while back:

I just saw the design in my head, drew it, and thought 'wow, that would look great as a papercutting', then of course it had to have a brightly colored background.... In the end I made a whole slew of different abstract designs like this.
Artemis

Wow, Wingrae, those are really awesome. I like repetition of the shapes.
wingrae

Thanks Art Very Happy If people are interested I'll upload and post the other ones I did.
Wukei

I like the brighter colours more than the wintery ones.  Which is opposite of my opinion, usually.
wingrae

More Sheepie!
Wukei

This reminds me of a winnie-the-pooh piece I once saw ^.^

Does he wish he could fly like the other sheep?
wingrae

Looks like you're right Wukei Very Happy
Wukei

Aww...that one also reminds me of Whinnie the Pooh. †(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Zs7DDaNRMM †it's at about 2:30. †Mom and I frequently sing it.)
wingrae

Aww, that's to sweet Wukei, I remember that Whinnie the Pooh cartoon now. Thanks for linking it Very Happy And yes, there are some definite similarities there.
wingrae

This is, by far, the best drawing of a person I have ever done.

She's actually a character I've been debating bringing to Town.

So you can see the whole pic:

A close up:

My scanner is being annoying, so I have a couple different versions because it wouldn't pick up the finer bits of the shading.

Wukei

Very nice, though her arms seem a bit too unshapely.  (Mine's the extreme of shapeleness, but this doesn't seem to have any shape.)  And the forearm on one side is a bit too long. I think her foot's a bit too small too.

But the shading and the contours of her dress are wonderful.
Deadly

Wow, I feel so envious of that...

Great work, but I would agree a bit with Wukei on the arm
wingrae

Thanks for the compliments and advice.

The lower half of her left arm is too long. I tried multiple times to fix it and thatís the best I was able to do for now.

Her right arm is held at kind of an odd angle, and the shape of her shoulder and elbow is based off my own arm when at that angle. I have really odd elbows, so that would be the reason for the odd shape there. In other words: itís anatomically correct, just looks weird.

Ah, feet. I always draw those too small. Thanks for pointing it out, Iíll remember to go up a good shoe size or two next time Very Happy
The Bushranger

Wow. That's beautiful, Wing!
*is envious of your art-fu* Very Happy
wingrae

Thanks Bushranger.

I've never been told I practice 'art-fu' before <.<  >.>

Since I had so much fun drawing Sheepie, I had to draw more.

Here is the continuation of Sheepie's dream:

Wukei

Awww, he's making a friend. ^.^ *huggles sheep cloud*
wingrae

We interrupt this series of Sheepie pictures to bring you an announcement.

Do not repeat Terumitsu's mistake.

In chat he stuck Sheepie and Amber into a clothes dryer.
Know what happens when you rub together wool and amber?

Wukei

awww...poor sheepie *huggles Sheepie to make him feel better*
wingrae

Sheepie says thanks for the hugs Wukei! It made her feel much better.

Here are the Sheepie drawings all in a row. No, itís not really meant to be a comic or anything, it just started with Sheepie looking at the clouds, and I had the same idea Wukei did: I wonder if Sheepie wants to join the other sheep in the sky?

Well, this is what happens so far:

I have two more drawings that show what happens next, but I'll upload those later Smile
Wukei

I really like when Sheepie waves at the cloud sheep.
Deadly

It's so cute and lovely... really, wonderful Smile
wingrae

Thanks so much for the comments, Wukei, Deadly. My personal favorite is the first one of Sheepie sleeping.

And here's what happens when Sheepie trys out her plan:

Moxie

Aw... she'll have to rent a Zeppelin.
Wukei

Aww *huggles poor sheepie*  That's the saddest face I've ever seen.
KerfuffleMach2

Aw. Sad sheepie.

I know! Jetpack!
Deadly

Aaawwww, that's so sad. Poor sheepie.
nightwing

Do Bird-Men dream of flying sheep?
Wukei

Sheep are counted, not dreamed of.
atreyu_the_masked_llama

Awww, poor sheepie!! You can do it!!!
Exachix

Wukei wrote:

Wrongly so, I belive wolves dream of sheep.
Wukei

But nightwing said it in a way that suggested 'counted' rather than 'dreamed of.'
nightwing

I was also referencing the title of the book Do androids dream of electric sheep, on which the movie Blade Runner is based. It was bad joke, I didn't expect it to stir up controversy.
Wukei

Then the book has a terrible title...people don't think of dreaming of sheep.  They think of counting them BEFORE they're asleep.
nightwing

True, but I didn't name it.
Jacklu

KerfuffleMach2

Jacklu wrote:

I do too. ^.^

Although I dream of a lot of random things.
The Bushranger

Hmm...most of Wing's pictures aren't there anymore... Sad
Wukei

Probably an update to their site. They're just working on it.   It'll come back.
