[Plot] The Grand Temple, Kaledra

Kaledra Five is a planetary wasteland, only the vestiges of life having survived the massive nuclear explosion several millennia ago.
The site that was once the Grand Temple, the focus of the entire Kaledran civilisation, is now the centre of a huge rater, several hundred miles wide.

There will be very little of interest to see at the moment. A few weak-looking plants struggle to live here, but that's about it.
Who

A blue box appears with a loud vwhorping noise.
Metakirb

Cactra and susie walk out of the blue box.
Xaspian

It's lucky that they come from the TARDIS. If they didn't they'd be met by a faceful of radiation, not to mention numerous toxins in their lungs. However, they should be safe, as long as they don't stray too far from the Tardis.

It's also quite chilly. Not dangerously so, but they might want to put a jumper on, or something.
Who

Who and Taren step out.

"Woah, feel that radiation."
Metakirb

You sure this is the right place?
Who

"Positive, what do you think kids?"
Metakirb

It's a little cold.
Who

"Lot of places are cold, you'll get used to it."
Metakirb

Are you okay Taren?
Who

He nods.

"You lot stay here, the Tardis's grace should protect you."
Metakirb

And what about you?
Who

"I'm going to have a look around."
Metakirb

Be careful.
Who

"Aren't I always?"
Metakirb

Not always.

She smiles.
Who

"Well I'll try my best."
Metakirb

good.
Who

And of Who wanders.

"HELLO!?"
Xaspian

His cry fades into the wind.
Who

"Okay maybe this wasn't my best idea....but he couldn't travel in time..."
Xaspian

Let's point out that he last saw Chime on board his own Time Machine. And that Chime' brother tried to convert their house into a giant time machine. And the significant aging that Gloria seems to have undergone.

Just a few points to take note of.
Who

Yeah but he's pretty sure he told Chime that messing with time travel was not a good idea.

He heads back to the Tardis.
Metakirb

No luck?
Who

"Nope, though I think we've got the right where, just not the right when."
Metakirb

Okay.

Susie feels something in her pocket, and pulls out a small, round, bead-like gem
Who

"What you got there?"
Metakirb

not sure...
Who

"I'll have a look when we get in. In you go."
Metakirb

She nods and walks in, followed by Cactra.
Who

Followed by Who and Taren.
Who

The tardis disappears and should appear at the end of a very faint artron trail 4000 years ago.
Xaspian

4000-odd years ago...

The TARDIS materialises in the corner of a large courtyard.
Who

Who walks out possibly followed by any number of people.
Metakirb

Cactra walks out with Who, holding his hand, and susie follows her brother.
Who

"Well this is certainly an improvement."
Metakirb

There's at least something here.
Who

"Yep. What do you think kids?"

"It's better than before."
Xaspian

There are several people, mostly men but not all, standing in, or walking across the courtyard. Most of them seem to be wearing ornate robes.
Several of them turned at the noise, and watched the TARDIS materialise.
AS the Who family get a few paces into the courtyard, A dozen or so armoured guards pour in and surround them, cutting them off from the blue box, and with spears pointed at them.
Metakirb

Susie hides behind Cactra, not that it does any good since they're surrounded.
Who

"Okay, everyone just stay calm."
Xaspian

A tall man, wearing the same robes as the others, but also a fancy hat, walks towards them, stopping clear of the circle of guards.
"Explain your presence in the midst of our sacred temple."
His voice is calm, but commanding. He doesn't seem angry, but it feels like he could easily become so.
Who

"Umm...well funny as it may seem I'm just looking for a friend of mine, he's somewhere round here. Might have just appeared out of nowhere?"
Xaspian

"You are speaking nonsense."
He turns to the leader of the guards.
"Take them to the Chamber of Detention."
Who

"This is important, he's here somewhere, rather nice watch."
Xaspian

The Man in Charge ignores Who, and turns to walk away.
Four of the guards give their spears a twist, causing them to shrink, so that they fit on their belts. They each reach for a pair of hoop-like handcuffs. The guard leader speaks in a harsh voice.
"Each of you, put out your hands."
Who

"Do what they say."

Who and Taren comply.
Metakirb

Cactra and susie do the same.
Xaspian

The guards put the handcuffs on them all. They're tight, but not too uncomfortable. Once they've all been restrained, the other guards stand back, no longer pointing their spears at the Who family.
"Now, get moving. You two, escort the prisoners with me down to Detention. The rest of you, get that box moved out of here."
Who

"I put the hand brake on, couldn't if you tried."
Xaspian

"Just get walking."
One of the guards Prods at Who with the blunt end of his spear.
The guards are guiding them towards a door at one end of the courtyard. Rising above the walls on all sides can be seen a large complex of buildings. They are able to see an aircraft rising vertically some distance away.
Who

Who and Taren start moving.

"Where exactly are you taking us?"
Metakirb

As do Cactra and Susie
Xaspian

"No questions. Just walk"
They reach the door, which opens automatically, into a long corridor with many off-shoots. None of the doors or corridors appear to be labelled, although those they pass, all robed, appear to know where they're going.
They'll be directed by their guard escort down a series of turns and corridors.
Who

"Now that's not fair, I've got plenty of questions."
Xaspian

They aren't very friendly, but they're not cruel. The pace is slow enough for the children to keep up.

They enter yet another corridor, quite a wide one. Partway down is an open door, through which can be seen a small hangar-type area, with engineers apparently trying to repair some kind of spacecraft.
Who

Anything Who'd recognise?
Xaspian

He'll recognise that they're doing it wrong. In fact, as the prisoners and guards get closer to the side doorway, the engineers seem to notice it too.
"The Astral Energy is unbalanced!"
"Quick, use your ankh to adjust the aura."
One of them reaches to a pendant round his neck, and touches it to a part of the machinery. A light passes between the two, and into the spaceship, but this only seems to make things worse.
"You, don't look at that."
Who gets another spear-butt prod from a guard.
Who

"That's a bit of a shod job isn't it?"
Xaspian

"Do not question the works of the flight priests."
Yup. They're closer now, and can see that the 'engineers' are wearing robes, and that the hangar seems to be decorated similarly to a minor temple.
By now, Who should be able to tell that unless someone who knows what he's doing attends to the spacecraft quickly, it'll be bad for all of them. Like, big boom kind of bad.
"It's no use. The Gods have withdrawn they blessing from this Skycraft."
Who

Who tries to get the attention of one of the engineers.

"Um...hello, don't suppose I could make a suggestion?"
Xaspian

They're now right by the door. One of the guards starts to tell Who to shut up, but one of the "flight priests" silences him with a gesture.
"Who are you?"
"Prisoners, reverend flight priest. To be-"
"I asked him, not you."
He looks at Who.
"Well?"
Who

Time to get his lying groove on. Lets see that things going to go boom...they think it's somekind of relic....what did that guy call himself?

"I'm a flight priest. I was sent here from another world."

Not like he can't prove it.
Xaspian

"You don't look like a flight priest."
"No matter!" The other priest chips in. "We need all the help we can get."
The first one nods.
"Guard, remove his restraints."
The guard tries to protest, but isn't allowed to, and so complies.
Who

"And my family too."
Xaspian

The machine is beginning to whine, and show signs that immediate attention is required.
"Are you a flight priest or not?"
"They can't help with the Skyboat. They keep the handcuffs."
Who

"Wait here."

He dashes towards the machine, fishing his sonic screwdriver out of his pocket
Xaspian

"What's he doing?"
The preists watch Who carefully. It seems they believe his rather bad lie, for now, at least.
And if he's not a Flight Priest, they're all gonna die anyway, so he can't make things worse.
Who

Well he's going to try and stop the ship from exploding.
Xaspian

It's not too difficult. A fairly simple solution, to anyone who knows any engineering. Surprising, then, that the 'flight priests' couldn't do it themselves. Their techniques seemed to rely more on ritual than on understanding.

A little bit of reversed polarity, and then some re-wiring of power conduits, or something like that, the vents at the front of the craft emit a low rumble, and the excess energy is vented successfully. A potentially disastrous explosion has been averted, for now, at least.

"What did he do?"
"I don't know. But he must be truly blessed by the gods."
Who

"Good thing I got here in time."
Xaspian

"Guard, why were they being taken to detention?"
"They invaded the Courtyard of the Sun. Priest Menkon ordered them be held."
The three of them seem to be having their own discussion, and aren't paying too much attention to Who, Cactra, or the kids. Still, they are blocking the doorway, and Who's way to his family.
The second priest speaks up.
"Obviously they are sent to us by the gods. They must have an audience with the Priest-king immediately!"
Who

Who grins and starts walking back to his family.

"Am I good or am I good?"
Xaspian

"Uh, uh, Yes, you are indeed good, O Flight Priest."
He seems nervous, and takes the question seriously.
"Release his companions!" The second priest hisses urgently at the guard, who fumbles for the unlock codes on a keychain at his belt.
Metakirb

Susie runs up to Who.
Who

He picks her up.

"You okay?"
Metakirb

She nods, hugging him.
Who

He hugs her back reassuringly.

"Nothing to be afraid of."
Xaspian

"Show them to Guest Quarters. We shall arrange an audience with the Priest-king."
The guard mumbles assent.
"I am truly sorry for Menkon's misunderstanding. I hope our hospitality will undo any wrong he has done you."
Who

"Of course, it was a simple misunderstanding."
Xaspian

"Of course."
The guard offers to lead the way. Their new destination isn't so far from here, and they can use more direct corridors and hallways this time.
Who

Who follows, and he's holding Susie, and Taren'll follow, so I gues that just leaves Cactra.
Metakirb

Cactra follows.
Xaspian

It's about a ten minute walk. They are shown past a pair of guards who bow as they pass, into large, well furnished quarters. There are fancy drapes and decorations, two big windows looking out onto the temple complex, and on a table sits a bowl of fruit.
"I wish you greetings, honoured guests. I am Merriankhe, priest and aide to the king."
The word 'king' seems to carry the overtones of 'Pharaoh', rather than a more European style monarchy. Having said that, this isn't entirely an Egyptian rip-off culture. But it mostly is.
"It will be some time before the Pharaoh is able to see you. In the meantime, relax in these quarters, and feel free to ask me any questions. I will try to answer to the best of my abilities."
Who

"Okay I'll start, haven't seen a man in purple have you? Might have just popped out of nowhere like us."

(If chime doesn't wear purple replace that with what ever he doe in fact wear.)
Xaspian

"The second order priesthood wear purple-coloured robes to signify their rank. Do you wish me to summon one for you?"
He seems a little confused about why Who would want a low ranking priest.
Who

"It's a specific person....he's got nice watch?"
Xaspian

"A timepiece? No, timekeeping is a sacred duty, not tended to by any who are not of the Chapter of the Stellar Motion."
He speaks as if this should be fairly obvious.
"They wear orange, with a red stripe."
Who

"Could I go see them?"
Xaspian

"It is strongly suggested that you wait until your audience with the Pharaoh. If your or your family would like a rest, there are beds through those doors. There are facilities for washing, and we can provide food. Make yourself comfortable."
Who

"Oh, think we could all do with a rest then."

He heads for the doors.
Xaspian

"I will be here if you have any further queries or requests."
Metakirb

Sounds good.
Who

Once through the doors Who'll put Susie down and wait for the rest of his family before shutting the door.
Metakirb

So no sign of him yet...
Xaspian

Merriankhe smiles at them, and waits in the main room, in case he's needed.
Who

"He might not even be here, it was a very faint artron trail. So what do you think kids?"
Metakirb

This place is wierd.
Who

"And scary."

"Oh you two haven't seen anything yet."
Metakirb

It's going to get worse?
