Moon Vampires (Enupnion Setting)

These creatures are (or are descended from) the people who experimented with magically binding themselves to the fragments of the shattered moon. They eventually grew to rely less on their bodies and more on the magics of the stones... then just magic in general.

In appearance, their flesh is cool and almost entirely drained of blood, and they often have some sort of trace of the magical pieces of the moon on them.

Moon Vampire

Size and Type
The creature's type changes to Aberration. Size is unchanged.

Special Attacks

Drain Magic (Su)
A moon vampire can drain magic from spellcaster, enchanted item, or something under the effects of duration spell.
To drain an enchanted item or something targeted by a spell, a moon vampire must first touch the target (requiring a melee touch attack) and make a check (1d20 + your HD) against a DC equal to (11+caster level of spell/item). On success, one spell (which must be selected before the check) on the target is dispelled, or the targeted item loses its magical properties for 1d4 rounds. If the item has charges, it loses one charge instead of being suppressed.
To drain a spellcaster, a moon vampire must succeed on a melee touch attack, and then makes a check (1d20 + your HD) against the DC (11+caster level of the spellcaster). They can then drain one unused spell from any slot that has a level equal to or less than the amount by which you beat the DC.

Special Qualities

Damage Reduction (Su)
A moon vampire has damage reduction 5/magic. A moon vampire’s natural weapons are treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

Resistances (Ex)
A moon vampire has resistance to cold 5 and electricity 5

Partial Undeath (Ex)
Immunity to poison, sleep, disease.

Not subject to nonlethal damage, fatigue, and exhaustion.

They do not need to breathe, eat, or sleep.

Abilities
+2 Constitution, +2 Charisma

Level Adjustment

So I need level adjustment, comments, ideas...
I'm thinking they should also have some kind of special abilities having to do with the moon's powers, but we haven't decided what each moon can do (including the one that fell), so...

Maybe (instead of eating/breathing/sleeping, though they probably don't need to do it as often) they need to do rituals over a fragment of the moon that fell, or when there is a full moon in the sky? If they don't, then they can succumb to fatigue, exhaustion, nonlethal damage, etc.
Deadly

It's a bit hard to do races and such at this early state, but I think they would make really great astronomers/students of the sky, and if we make that a part of magic, they might be very skilled at that sort of magic in particular.
The Chilli God

Balance-wise, the level adjustment would probably depend on how many times per day the Moon Vampire could use its Drain Magic ability. I'd put it at LA+2, or maybe LA+3 if the ability is at will. Maybe. It's about the middle. Would definitely put down to LA+2 if you include some sort of weakness or dependancy, like a hunger for magic or something.

(I used the Fiendish Creature template as a back-drop for the LA, since the DR and the resistances were similar)

I'm thinking they might have a limit on how many times they could successfully do it per day. That might make sense.

Maybe not explode ... but petrify ... as the magical excess condensed in on itself and slowly turned them into moon-rock from the inside out.

Which, in turn, could be exploited by someone who figured out how to extract magical power from moonrocks.

Mmmm, I can see a crazed sorcerer/druid capturing moon vampires and 'stoning' them to create great magical batteries that he can draw upon for powerful magical rituals (or perhaps as just sort of an immobile set of moonstones o' power).
