I'm not dead (I promise)

Hey everyone, sorry for the majorly long absence. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been thinking of you all here in The Town everyday (I think this means I am an addict).

We'll have been in the new house for two weeks as of tomorrow (Friday), but work has ground to a halt as Ribern is back at work. I'm not. I'm still unemployed kind of. I've asked that my computer doesn't come down to us yet - I know the moment it does I won't be doing any work on the house whatsoever. Besides, it's very dusty and I'm protective of that machine.

The house is part building site, part health hazard at the moment. We've decided the master bedroom only needs a lick of paint and some minor demolition for now, but can't do that until we have another room to sleep in, and out of the two other bedrooms, only Ribern's study is big enough so of course that's where we found the damp...

My main role in this, lest you start to think I've magically gained DIY skills overnight, has been cleaning. This sounds easy. The previous owner was a very heavy smoker and never cleaned. As such, there are large parts of the house which appear to be orange/brown but are actually white. It's really rather icky work, as the moment moisture hits the walls, the tar starts dripping everywhere - eugh. According to one of our friends: "Congratulations on your new house. It's grim."

We have, however, cleared a large amount of the brambles, so outwardly we look as though we've made a lot of progress, but I've found cleaning the ceiling is a nightmare job due to the need to keep moving the ladder every 5 mins to reach a new spot (it doesn't help that I am scared of ladders). I've also discovered I'm petrified of public showers (we had no hot water for a week, so tried to shower in the local gym).

As for jobs - well, I've been out of work for 3 weeks now but it's an odd situation. I attended interviews, was successful, but have been waiting two weeks to find out where and when I shall be working. However, the promise of a permanent job in the future is better than nothing.

Well, that's the update from me - hope all of you are all right or better, and I look forward to catching up on various plots on my return.

All I can say is:

LIBRIS!!!!
Timberwolf

Might I suggest my grandfather's old way of gardening (true)

An industrial flamethrower he used to borrow from work (he was a roofer and they used it to melt the tar).

Used to work really well until he burnt down the greenhouse.
Kyrian

QUICK! VAEL!

Ban her from leaving!
The_Librarian

Sadly, I was not allowed to use fire. Nor am I allowed to use the water blaster for cleaning the ceiling.

Aaaand... my time on the internet ends in 5mins Sad Catch y'all again soon, I hope.

Not a word!! What happens on GitP, stays on GitP. Razz
The_Librarian

Ookaaaay... spill, llama, or I start searching for items of a pink and sparkly nature...

I'm currently on a modem, and sat in a room which isn't full of boxes which is nice. We've got the first coat of paint up in one of the rooms which, when done, will give us some space. Sadly, the plumbing has now decided to leak in a few places (like through the hall ceiling) so we're bumping the bathroom up our list of priorities.

I've started work back with the Probation Service which is awesome - this time, it's per...manent (sorry, very much wanted to type "personal" there) so they're stuck with me, unless I fail my probation period of course. My computer's still up north, along with my soft toys - there's not much more to come down (I hope) so that could mean it's on its way, though we're still very, very busy.

Not much of the kitchen is brown anymore, except for places which a) should be or b) I can't reach. So we're getting there Smile Thanks for your kind messages/attempted kidnap* - hope everything's going well with everyone, and that nobody has burnt down my house.

* Yes, Kyrian, I saw that just a second before the library computers kicked me off.

You...

Left Soft Toys up north?

HOW!
atreyu_the_masked_llama

Not that....anything but that....okay, okay....I'll talk.

Atreyu was kinda sorta turned into a Valkyrie in Old Town, complete with outfit and gender, which is female. Poor guy was traumatized by it. He was eventually turned back to normal and the wool is starting to grow back where Aesa shaved a message in it.

Oh boy, I wish the wolf had been around for that one Very Happy

First room's as finished as any room is going to be until we can get new carpets. The plumbing's decided therefore now would be a good time to spring a few leaks, but basically all this means is we're doing the bathroom a little earlier than planned. I'm looking forward to having an actual shower instead of kneeling in the bath with one of those hose-type things.

First week of work went well, but I'm ill today. I think Ribern gave me germs. I'm trying to refine Jonah's descrip in the Character Index - it may change a few times before I'm back properly.

Saw Terry Pratchett at the weekend Smile

Hope you're all keeping well and safe

Why does everyone have to see him and I don't?! *cries*

There was a time when there was a possibility Terry would be in Cambridge...I was so excited...but then he didn't turn up while I was there...*sigh*

Ah well.

Broadband - check

I've discovered a tolerance for painting. I'm not very good, but I managed to paint mostly where it was supposed to be, the short of which is we're close to getting this house into a home instead of a building site.

I'm sat in my study as I type this, and my computer will be coming down in the next load from storage. I barely know what to do first... Neverwinter Nights? Sims 2? The boards? I have a talisman for Libris to design... so much to do! Thanks for all your support - it's good to be back.
Exachix

YAY! Welcome back Libris!
Lykan

Woohoo!

Haven't spoken to you in forever... Get on IM!
Penguinizer

Where do these conversations happen. I actually have been largely wondering where you dis-appeared from Gianitp. It is great that your house is in better shape now.
