Deep Caverns

BAMF! Our hero and her cat sidekick find themselves once again in the pitch black. The floor's slightly damp and there's definitely something icky on the walls.
Cynical Circle

She eyes the... all of the things with wariness.
Who

Can she see in the dark?
Cynical Circle

Caelum can't, but as she shifts control to Äther, she begins to be able to do so.
Who

Well that's a jolly useful thing to be able to do now that she can see clearly. The cave appears to be naturally occurring and the icky on the wall is a slightly pulsating slime, the cave itself extends quite far away both in front and behind her.

"Well I've certainly been to less pleasant places."
Cynical Circle

... Ugh.
She starts walking forward.
Who

As they walk she might notice several holes in the wall of the cave, not too big, but certainly big enough for a person to crawl through.

"I've been stuck like this too long, I'm actually thinking about eating that stuff on the wall."
Cynical Circle

That is terrible, wonky cat. Just awful.
She sounds, indeed, mildly disgusted; she looks at the holes.
Who

The cat bristles indignatly.

"I do have a name you know."

The holes seem very rough, whatever made them clearly was big on standards.
Cynical Circle

I wouldn't remember it if you told me.
Who

The cat cocks his head curiously and peers in to one of the holes.

"Really? Why not?"
Cynical Circle

Because I'll be too busy killing things, I bet.
Who

That's rather rude thinks the cat, but now is not the time to quibble over such things.

"Think these holes are important?"
Cynical Circle

They do look interesting...
Who

"I could give one a quick scout out I suppose."
Cynical Circle

She nods and crouches so he can get out more easily.
Who

He hops out of her pocket and in to the gloom, is voice echoing in the narrow confines of the tunnel.

"Euck, the smell."
Cynical Circle

She waits for him.
Who

She really wont have to wait long as he bolts back out of the hole issuing a long stream of profanity a large black centipede hot on his tail.

"Kill it! Kill it! Kill it!"
Cynical Circle

She swings her sword at it, seeking to impale the thing.
Who

The blade digs in to the creature's segmented hide. Chittering in pain it pivots round to snap at her arm.
Cynical Circle

She jerks away, letting go of the blade and tossing a dark fireball at it.
Who

It lets out a peculiar hissing sound as the fireball hits home, quickly going limp and lifeless.

"Is it dead?"
Cynical Circle

She tentatively steps forward to yank out the sword, unsure whether it's dead or not.
Who

Well it's either dead or doing a jolly good impression of being dead, it spasms slightly as the blade is removed.

"Oh good lord, well this certainly helps arrow down who has got our scroll."
Cynical Circle

... Bug people?
Who

"Or rather a particular bug person. I can't say this is surprising, he always struck me as off. Probably knows we're here now too."
Cynical Circle

She sighs.
Really? Good for him, then.
Who

"You don't seem particularly worried by this."

Now free to walk about the cat begins to head deeper down in to the cave, wearily eyeing the holes in the halls.
Cynical Circle

My capacity to worry at all is not very great.
She follows.
Who

"Well at least one of us is calm then."

The cat stops abruptly as something blocks there path, something big and black and shiny. Its protective plates gently clattering together as it slumbers.
Cynical Circle

She goes still too, barely breathing.
Who

"That's...that's big."

He doesn't dare creep forward, that thing could probably kill him without trying.
Cynical Circle

She starts backing away.
Who

As does the cat, not speaking until they're a fair distance away.

"We've got to get round that thing somehow."
Cynical Circle

... Any ideas as to how?
Who

I'm not sure if cats can shrug but if they can he totally does.

"Think you could fit in those holes?"

He gestures his head toward the holes in the walls.
Cynical Circle

She looks at them, nodding if they look like she can fit.
Who

Well she probably could but if they encountered something in them she wouldn't really have the room to fight.

"I think these are interlinked, we should be able to come out at one passed that creature."
Cynical Circle

She sighs and nods.
Who

"I don't see you coming up with any better ideas."
Cynical Circle

That's because, within the confines of reason and stuff, there aren't any right now.
Let's go, I guess.
Who

There are probably other options but regardless the cat hops in to the hole, if they do come across something he can at least gnaw them somewhat.
Cynical Circle

She follows, shrinking her sword to the odd shuriken-thing it was before and putting it at her belt.
Who

As they crawl through the claustrophobic tunnels our heroes may get the feeling that they're being watched. Though they appear to be alone in the tunnels so who knows what could be spying them?
Cynical Circle

She shudders a little bit, not liking this.
Who

After some uneventful crawling around they should come out passed the large creature that was originally blocking their way. A chittering voice greets them, seemingly coming from nowhere.

"Who dares enter the realm of my little ones?"
Cynical Circle

Ah, crap...
Who

The cat involuntarily hisses, looking around for the source of the sound.

"We're  only here for the scrolls you took!"
Cynical Circle

... Yeah, that.

Give 'em up nicely and everybody goes home relatively unharmed.
Who

A clankling laugh comes from nowhere in particular, the astute amongst our little band may notice the walls seem to be moving, pulsating.

"You must be with those scribes. Do you really think you can threaten me? I have you surrounded."
Cynical Circle

Think I should start tossing around dark fire again?
Who

The cat nods.

"Please do."
Cynical Circle

She sets about hurling fireballs left and right!
Who

There's a hissing sound as masses of tiny centipedes drop to the ground as they're seared by the fireballs. The temperature in the room plummets as they begin forming a large mass in the centre of the room, a blast of pure cold lancing out from it towards our heroes.
Cynical Circle

She tries to grab the cat and scramble out of the way.
Who

The blast hits the wall as the centipede mass sculpts itself in to a much more humanoid shape.

"Leave now!"
Cynical Circle

She tries to scoop up the kitty.
Quick, do my thinking for me!
Who

The cat is easily scooped up in the heat of the moment as centipedes begin to drop from the ceiling in an attempt to land on them, though he is taken rather by surprise.

"Gah! Run!"
Cynical Circle

She runs like heck, not needing to be told twice. Or even once, really.
Who

"You cannot run! I have eyes and ears everywhere!"

The mass gives chase, not seeming to be in any particular though.

"You seemed to have lost your composure somewhat."
Cynical Circle

Yep.
Running sorta does that.

She keeps running.
Who

"Well we have to go back. We need those scrolls!"
Cynical Circle

And we will be getting them... how?
Who

"I don't know! You've got the thumbs and the fireballs!"
Cynical Circle

I won't be able to kill them all that way, not quick enough to stop 'em from killing us!
Who

"Well keep running then!"

That's going to be a might difficult as the mass of centipedes has some how got in front of them, blocking their way.
Cynical Circle

She curses and hurls fire at them.
Who

It parts in the centre allowing the fireball to pass through it, it lunges at our heroes attempting to knock them to the ground.
Cynical Circle

Äther is knocked to the floor, but swings her sword in one hand and holds her kitty friend with the other arm.
Who

The seems to do very little, swinging at a semi-solid mass of insects as it is. They swarm over her, trying to bite her and inject their potent venom.
Cynical Circle

She probably gets a bite or two as she tries to shake them off madly, throwing more fire.

I deadtime for om noms.
Who

The fire seems rather effect and they quickly disperse scurrying back up the walls, it would appear she just bought them some breathing room.

"Well at least we know fire works."
Cynical Circle

She nods, panting heavily.
Who

"He can just keep regrouping though, we're out of our depth."

The cat hisses mid sentence and strikes at an errant centipede.
Cynical Circle

She tries to clear a path for them to retreat.
Who

Easy enough to do at the moment, whatever intelligence is guiding the mass of centipedes seems to be toying with them for now. The cat takes off down the middle of the cleared path.
Cynical Circle

She sprints after him.
Who

"Okay the thing doesn't like fire, that much is clear. I don't think what we've encountered so far is the main mass."
Cynical Circle

... Not good at all, then.
Who

"Not at all, but if it gives us a target. I'm not dying as a cat!"
Cynical Circle

She nods, conceding this point.
Who

"Now think. If you where a....I don't even know...a thing that likes centipedes where would you hide?"
Cynical Circle

... Tunnels, I guess...
Who

"Look for tunnels then."

The cat leads by example and starts checking for any suspicious looking holes down one side of the room.
Cynical Circle

She looks, ready to throw fire. Or even more fire.
Who

She might notice one's slightly bigger than the surrounding holes, could mean something. Could be nothing at all.
Cynical Circle

She quietly calls the cat over to that hole, feeling suspicious.
Who

The cat stealthily pads over, one of the benefits of being a cat that, stealthy padding.

"Think that's the way?"
Cynical Circle

She nods quietly, clenching her fist.
Who

"Ladies first then."
Cynical Circle

She sighs and heads in.
Who

This tunnel widens out very quickly and appears to be almost entirely smooth, it also becomes completely vertical a short way in, I hope she can climb.
Cynical Circle

She starts climbing!
Who

Her feline companion dangles from the end of her coat by his mouth as she climbs, lacking the necessary hands to do it himself. At the top it widens out in to a large, and yet again, perfectly smooth dome.

"So you finally found me."

Where's that voice coming from you ask? A figure at the back of the room, sporting two rather large pincers for hands and lots of chitin.
Cynical Circle

Pretty much, yeah.
She grips her sword.
This is the part where you give us stuff or get dead.
Who

The figure doesn't seem that impressed.

"How marvellously eloquent, at least the scribes haven't lowered their standards since my departure."
Cynical Circle

If they let you in, I think their standards were pretty low at the time. Her eyes narrow slightly.
Who

"In our defence, he didn't look like that at the time."

"He's correct. Now I am so much more!"

With that rather vain pronouncement one of his pincered arms launches towards her, seemingly stretching out to cover the gap between them and try and take a chunk out of her.
Cynical Circle

She ducks and rolls, then tries to swing at the arm with her sword.
