Baeleck's Art

Well, after much practicing, I've actually managed to make some avatars which I'm pleased with... sorta.

I'd like to know what everyone else thinks of my stuff so... yeah, here it is.

My rendition of Baeleck. Took me a while to get him looking how I wanted, and I'm still not 100% satisfied... though I am trying to get something looking as good as Vael's version.

This I was really pleased with. I think I captured Gavin (Modern town/ regular town) perfectly here, and I'm very pleased with how he turned out.

Joe, from Sci-Fi town. Kinda simplistic, but I like the detail on his datapad.

Liza, also from Sci-Fi. Not so pleased with her, but that's the best I came out with after a few attempts. The hair and body definitely need work.

Edit: Second attempt there as well. That guide was pretty useful, Vael - thanks.

And my new character, Dorvan. The pose I got was good, and the outfit, though there's something wrong with his head... might be the baldness. Eh.

So... Yay? Nay? Have I done well on my first few avatar attempts, do I need more practice, or am I doomed to failure?
Vael

You're definitely on the right track, and you're progressing faster than I did, for sure. I don't really have anything to say...
Well, except for Liza, and it isn't so much saying something anyways.
Trazoi gives an excellent explanation of Male/Female avatars here. I'd advise you look at that- it was certainly helpful for me. The entire guide was, really.
Uberblah

Those look really good, Baeleck. I look forward to seeing more.
Baeleck

Dorvan's airship, The Firetrap. Loosely based on on the Mechane from the OOTS comic, but with less giant crossbows.
Ms Elaneous

That's beautiful, Baeleck!  I love it!  Mr. Green
Baeleck

After being quizzed as to where Mychasi had disappeared to, I created this. That's a brownie he's sitting on, in case that wasn't clear.
DeBunny

Yay!
Very good.
Uberblah

Very, very nice, Bae. Keep it up.
Baeleck

I so far don't have a hamlet character, so I created Faerrayn here - an earth Genasi.
Exachix

*slow*

Mychasi!!!
CabbageTheif

you are not doomed to failure, you are much better with making avatars than i am.  i think that yourr captain character is pretty nifty as is.  if you want to give him hair, i would suggest not too much, not too long.
Baeleck

I got bored earlier, so I made this.

I might add more detail to it at some point.
Ms Elaneous

Oooh!  Very nice.  ^.^  I like looking at your work.  It has a really specific style that I enjoy.  Keep it up!
Baeleck

*Throws an axe in too, in the same style*
Uberblah

Wow....

You do weapons really well. I really like them both.
Baeleck

Yay more swords.
Uberblah

I stand by my earlier observation. 'Cept that I like this one better than the other two.
Artemis

I think it's the shading and the runes that make it stand out more, but all three look great.
Baeleck

A funky serrated spear.

@v Compliments always appreciated. I was rather pleased with that avatar, I have to say Very Happy.
ValdisRequiem

Bae-Bae, I like your style. Its similar to many things, but oh so different in a nice way.
May I also offer my compliments on CSK's avatar from Giant?
Uberblah

That looks really good, Bae. Really good. But my favorite is still the blue-runed sword.
Baeleck

Anyone who's read the Goblins webcomic series will probably recognise this as the Axe of Prissan.
Uberblah

Ok.... that's my favorite. Maybe it's because I have a slight bias towards double axes.. But it's really good Bae.
Ms Elaneous

That spear is teh awesome.  My favorite weapon thus far!
Baeleck

Mychasi gets a helmet. Just a bit of editing done there - with added (albeit subtle) shading.
DeBunny

Whoo Mychasi! ^_^
Baeleck

Two throwing stars. I like the black one best.
DeBunny

I'd be inclined to agree with you, though that may be because red/black is my favorite color combination.  Smile
Uberblah

I think DeBunny said exactly what I was going to. Razz
Fenric

While I prefer blue and silver, and therefore like the lighter one best. Very Happy

But they are both pretty cool.
Castaras

I love black/red combinations. But I personally agree with Fen...the iceblue one is prettyful. ^.^
Baeleck

I saw this artist called Paul Noble the other day, who one of the art teachers at my school pointed out to me. He draws in an isometric style, which I really like.

Paul Noble

That's one of his works, of a fictional city called... er, Nobson Newton. A bit ominous, methinks.

I've used his style to give an impression of Town. I'll add colour and make it clearer later, maybe. And please excuse the isometric paper. I wouldn't have found it possible without it.

Spoiler:

Hopefully a few of the buildings should be recognisable.
Uberblah

Do I see the KNAVES floating castle and the tree from Zero Hour? And is that Trog's almost right inbetween them both?
Baeleck

Yes, that is KNAVES and Trog's, though it's not the tree from Zero Hour.

Also, I have clearer version. I did the outline in pen during my art lesson today.

Spoiler:

Expect to see a colour version at some point.
Ms Elaneous

<.<

Is it the Mneme Tree?

Very Happy
Uberblah

Ah, now I can make out the docks and Inari's. Very nice.
Fenric

Yay.  It is a very nice Town scene.
nightwing

Were is Amiras tower?

*frantically looks for it*
Baeleck

Yah, it's the Conservatory. It's a rather prominent landmark... y'know, huge tree that overshadows everything...

...on the other hand, if I were to include everywhere, I'd have run out of space. I was just browsing the directory for the most recognised places, and I didn't come across the tower.

Oh well. Might be a job for putting in my final piece. My teacher said I should follow the idea up, so I might have a bigger version to show in a month or two.
Kyrian

I see Trog's now!
Renom

Whose ship is that?
Destro Yersul

Probably El J's.
Exachix

WOWS.

That's so Cool!
Nevrmore

Are there any spots created by me to feed my fragile ego?
Baeleck

Renom wrote:

It's just 'a ship'. I didn't intend to be a particular one. It's just there because... y'know, docks have ships and all that.

Nevrmore wrote:

Not at current, no... but when I work on it for my final piece, I'll be able to include more. Who knows - maybe I'll add the Comprachicos' (sp?) Market or something.

I'll have to make a list, probably. I'm all for suggestions of what buildings to put in - the more interesting and unique, the better I guess.
Wukei

Y'know...if you drew it properly (which no one can)...everything would be right next to Trog's.
Jacklu

That, and every building would either be at the exact center of town or on the very outskirts, leaving a very large band of empty land... which would make the Town look like a giant target... which might explain why it seems to be the focal point of every plot to take over/destroy the world.  But the impossibility of accurately depicting the Town aside, that picture is awesome.
Wukei

y'know...I love that idea....everything's either at the center of town or in a circle around it, making it a target...makes for even more plot points...
Baeleck

I deliberately put Trog's in a central position, but yes - accurately depicting Town is not possible, seeing as the street layout constantly changes and buildings just crop up out of nowhere.

And lo, we have colour!

Spoiler:

The backdrop is a bit shoddy, but I'm pleased with it overall.
Hoseki

Very nice. Hoseki is impressed. ^_^
Kyrian

So is Kyrian.
Rebonack

Ooh!  I see the Playground in the Playground!

The whole thing looks spiffy.
Wukei

Y'know...technically it would be possible for everything to be next to Trog's.  If Trog's was like Starshmucks, a chain with a store on every corner, we could have that possibility...

Sorry, I get easily distracted...it looks very nice.  Better than I could do (I suck at inanimate objects.)
Uberblah

Holy crap! It's colored! That's amazing! Nice job, Bae.
Jacklu

You know, Trogs could be like Starbucks in reality.  Think about it, if each individual location would lead to a central, extra dimensional Tavern (think Howe's moving castle).  Each person would believe that his or her (or its as the case may be) Trog's is the only entrance. If you look at it that way, then it makes perfect sense that every building is right next to Trog's.  It would even explain why, no matter where they are in the Town,  everyone can instantly step into Trog's.....  Hmmmm... I wonder... oh right, The colored version is kick butt.
Wukei

Making it longer doesn't make it any different from my earlier statement...
Jacklu

Indeed. lengthening the explanation considerably while essentially restating what was already said by you does not indeed convey new information.  It is very likely that simply reiterating what has been said in an elongated fashion only serves to confuse the point trying to be made.  In fact, it can be said that this post serves no real purpose other than restate what you commented in the previous post in a longer way, which is indeed very similar to what I am saying right now.
Xaspian

I like the idea of multiple-entranced Trog's. But it might make a bit too much sense...
Also, I'm liking these pictures, too. Is that the dueling-clocktower I can see?
Baeleck

New avvie and character for Rebo's zombie apocalypse plot thingy.
Uberblah

Ooo... Me likey... Mucho.
