Seen any good movies lately? Or how about some bad ones? Is there a movie you want to see, but want to know what others think first? Well here's your thread. This place is where you can give your own movie rewiew to let everyone else know what you thought. That way no one has to waste good money on a crappy movie.

Ratings will be out of 4 '*'s and please include a brief explanation of your rating.

Now you can preview a soon-to-be-released movie! Give us the title, basic plot, and release date as well as any other info you want to tell us. Then review it once you've seen it!

A somewhat appropriate comic

Beowulf
*

They made Grendal a wimp, and Beowulf into a jerk rather than a heroic monster slayer.

I mean, the original poem was good, and they try to add all this extra stuff to give everything meaning... Like why Grendal was so inclined to ripping everyone apart. It's a nice thought, but they didn't do it very well.

I thought it was a bit weird that a 70-year-old man from the medeavil ages could pull off acrobatics only a trained gymnast could do while tied to a big-ass freaking dragon, too.

2.5/4 (or 6.5/10)

I thought it was okay, the CGI was distracting, and I thought the dragon's heart was both far too small and located in the throat, not the chest cavity. I'd say it's worth seeing once, maybe twice, but I'd not buy it on DVD.

Really? I wanted to go see it. Maybe I'll just wait 'till it comes out on DVD.

Deadly Kung Fu Lady: ****

You can pick it up on ebay for something like four dollars. It is money well spent.

That is, if you want a movie to point out the obvious cinematographic (big word) flaws and laugh at the awful acting. Laughable plot points, random villains, and generally nonsensical movie. Still, I liked D-War more than this.... Razz

No Country for Old Men: ****

Onto a more serious review....

It was a good movie, dealing with the effects of chance and what can happen on the road of life. Add some good actors, big silenced weapons (The mac 10 was huge with the silencer, but not as thick as the one for the shotgun), and really tense moments and you've got a good movie.

My only gripe is that the movie was almost too tense. Every scene with Anton Chigurh is a bloodbath waiting to happen.

And the idea that it was exposed to fire and chunks of debris on a regular basis kinda made you wonder how the hell it didn't accidentally kill itself. =P

There's also the bit where for some reason he can't reach to stab it with a sword, but he can reach in and just rip the damn thing out.

***

I'm also going to see The Mist the next chance I get. If someone's seen it already and it's bad, tell me.

I'll also be attending the Golden Compass premier, and I'll be ready to tear everyone involved in its creation to shreds when I find that it doesn't live up to the book.

Beowulf ***.5

CGI:EPIC! Plus I always though the poem was too black and white. I like how they changed his character a bit, and realism isn't my first concern in a movie like this.

Nightwatch ****.5

Excellent for the budget that the film was alloted. If only we could outsource our action films to Russia....

I started watching PotC III....I wished they wouldn't have done it.  They should have stopped at Number 1, that one was good, it's all down hill from there.

Myself, i think PotC III is better than the second part. Not as good as the first one, but passable and funny nonetheless

I like them all. 1,2, and 3.

Feel free to discount my opinion entirely, based on the fact that I have liked the following as well:

Catwoman
Star Wars Episodes 1,2, and 3

Agreed Destro...about PotC. I, II, and III were all good.

I like the trilogy, but I had a problem with PotC III.

Spoiler:

Calypso. She practically saves the day, yet wasn't mentioned till about halfway through the third movie. What the hell? There was a whole stream of character exposition, and then she creates a big whirlpool that transforms the final fight into a 'fair' (and rather boring) one.

It seems to me that the director took the easy way out.

I have to agree with popular opinion- I didn't like the second POTC at all, and the third was just "meh"

Across the Universe: ****

If you're a fan of the Beatles, this is a must see. Hell, I wasn't a fan of them untill I saw that movie, and felt like I had to hear all of them.
Aside from the music, the movie itself is well thought out and provoking, but seemed to drag on a little at the end.
All in all, a feel good movie.

Beowulf ***.25

I actually thought it was a fairly good movie. Sure the switch between animation and reality was somewhat noticeable, but the action throughout the entire movies made up for that. It's one of few movies that I've seen that has action spread throughout instead of just concentrated at one part. Plus I like the whole making of the legends and myths that made up the basis for this movie. The plot itself was kinda predictable, but good nonetheless.

Angelina Jolie is hot!

Enchanted
**** out of 5

Quite a good movie, despite all the singing. It was a bit like all of the more well known fairy tales together, and a lot of the lesser known ones get referenced. Though in my opinion the whole, "Let's use a ton of things from the fairy tales" is a little old.

So, all in all, the songs were good, the jokes were actually funny, and best of all, the main henchman learns a lesson about love from watching a soap opera!

What I'd like to see in a movie like this, though, would be not taking things from the fairy tales and instead making original stuff. Other than that, and the story being a little predictable, it was a good movie.

*Headdesk* I Am Legend came out today! Who else thinks it looks like it's going to be awesome? I do. I have high expectations for this movie, especially since it's Will Smith and he did a really good job in I, Robot and his other movies. Can't wait to see it.

Transformers: *** out of 5.

It was excellent, towards the end, with all the fighting...and the comedy mixed in here and there was also excellent. But, all the mushy love crap between the kid and his girlfriend was freakin' annoying. When I watch a movie with giant robots, I hope to have giant robots beat the crap out of each-other most of the time. My wish was granted, but the fun was downgraded because of the mushy love crap. Overall, excellent movie, worth watching, I liked it despite the shortcomings.

The Golden Compass: ** out of 5

I was rather dissapointed by this film. It seems like it was rushed as there are some obvious mistakes that really made the film terrible. Characters randomly find things out without ever being told about them, characters randomly dissapear and appear in several scenes, and the evil villain is as disappointing as Voldemort in the Harry Potter films.

With a bit more thought, the film could've been much better, it only needed five or ten more minutes to clear up those errors, or at least make the plot clear enough for people who haven't read the books to understand. And the big fight scene at the end reminded me all too much of the fight in Eragon, clearly all the money had been spent on making everything else look good, which was a real shame.

I Am Legend is one of two books I own with Will Smith on the cover. I'm building up a collection.

I would strongly urge you to read the book first though. It really is quite good. And you'll feel smart when you realize the book has little of the same plot as the movie. Razz

Beowulf 5/5

Hate to disagree, but I thought it was breathtaking.  CGI has come so far and yes, I hadn't realised the film was CGI at first (not from the trailer, anyhow).  The only thing that bothered me was Ray Winstone's "I'm here to kill your monstah."

Stardust 4.5/5

Had to see it because from the trailer I thought "my god, they've made a movie about Seren!" (one of Alarra's characters).  I thought it was wonderful except for the captain of the pirates.
Spoiler:

I would have preferred to see him fight Septimus in a dress and win

Thunderbirds 0/5

No, really, don't see it.  It's the most godsawful thing I've ever seen.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets ***.75/4

Excellent movie. Just as good as the first in my opinion. Plenty of action to keep you interested. Also enough intellectual stimulation to keep you thinking. Not necessarily as much as the first one though. It's a 3.75 because it is a sequel and it has that feel to it. All in all, a good movie though.

Tomorrow... I AM LEGEND!!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE.

You see National Treasure 2 and I Am Legend before Sweeney Todd??

Just thinking about that movie gives me the shivers. In a good way.
