Here's some bits of art I've done.

I'll custom edit tek-tek avatars on request.

A butterfly:

Because I felt like drawing something bright and posting it here. The scanner never quite gets the colors right when scanning oil pastels... the colors are really vibrant in real life.

Ooh! Pretty! I love the way the colors swirl on the lower wings. Plus, I love butterflies. ^_^

Thanks Art Very Happy

If you like swirly things... here's something else with swirled colors I did recently:

The colors came out a lot better on this scan.

It is actually done with just four different colors of pastel. I could have done it with three... but I cheated Razz

The spoiler has a larger version of it.

Spoiler:

I find layering on the pastels and blending the colors together relaxing. Not bothering to draw anything in particular takes all the pressure off.
*looks at above statement* I'm just droning on aimlessly because I can, aren't I.... *vanishes*

Ooooh, swirly swirly colors! Yay!

Looks real great, both the butterfly and this one. Looks so... jungle-y and warm. You can see all sorts of things in something abstract like that... I see  lots of grass and plants. Maybe a peacock or something in there too. And... some kind of extremely colorful pelican being ridden by a gnome or faerie Very Happy

I thought I saw a horse at first, or at least its tail. Very nice, Wingrae.

Thanks Uber Very Happy

And here's what happens to the piece of art if someone is foolish enough to hand me a craft knife and a giant stack of cardstock paper...

Awesome.  I'm gonna have my kids doing something similar (not tye dye, but stained glass on paper [safer than real stained glass]) on Sunday.

Oooh, sounds fun. I did something like that once where we rubbed a little cooking oil into the paper. Yeah, the paper got a little slimy, but it gave it that nice translucent look.

Also dropped bits of water-color or bits of food coloring onto coffee filters to make a tie-dye look, that was kinda nifty.

Both projects can be a little messy with kids, but are fun.

What supplies are you using for your project?

Markers, glitter pens, paper, and a flashlight to put the finished 'stained glass' cross over.

Yeah, I found a place that sells things cheap and bought a box of 72 for like $15.  I can already see the kids leaving the lids off of their pens, though.

A way to minimize that:

Before handing out the pens, tell the kids the caps have to go back on right away after using the pen. (sure, they'll forget, but some will remember, and then they'll know it's expected)

Then when it is time to pick up, put one kid in charge of collecting the pens and checking them all for caps. All the kids bring their pens to that one kid who collects them, checks them for caps, and puts them in the pen-box. I find the kid in charge tends to take their responsibility quite seriously, and often is more vigilant than a grown-up would be. This way the picking up is done for you instead of having to waste your time picking them all up and checking for caps.

I'm sure you already use techniques like this, but thought I'd say it anyway Smile

Pfft...that doesn't work.  But they each get 1 pen of each colour.  If theirs dries up, it's their own fault.  No more for them.  Too bad.

Thanks Uber Very Happy

So the kids each have their own set then. My idea only works if all the pens are kept together in one bin and are shared by the group, which is how we store the glitter pens and all the markers at my church.

Well, I have to do things a bit differently to keep peace.  The fact that I have almost constant migraines means I do several things different to keep them quiet.
